bynari, when I started in the industry in the mid 70's I could stand next to the driller as the drawworks went squeak, squeak, squeak as he lowered the drill string while drilling. When I finally retired at the age of 70 from Dubai I was responsible for all maintenance and marine operations on two offshore 5th generation jackup rigs working offshore in Iran.
The 6th generation jackups, semis and floaters were still in construction, the Stena drillships are of this ilk. When I look at them I know that the sophistication knows no bounds. Drilling five miles plus horizontally these days is not a problem and eliminates the need to drill multi vertical wells. I of course am not privy to the P1 plan of action but there is absolutely no reason why we should not be able to drill this well successfully. As for the results, well, the 3D surveys are supposed to indicate commercial quantities of oil. That is all I can say.
I have never worked with nodding donkeys but some of my mates from Texas and Oklahoma from the early days had one working in the back yard earning them a bit of drinking money.
