Incidentally bold, drilling the conductor section is the most dangerous part of the drilling operation as it is in open hole without the benefit of a BOP, unknown shallow pockets of gas have been known blowout during this time.

The first section of casing is the conductor to which the BOP is attached after the spool has been welded on. The BOP stays on during drilling operations then removed and replaced by the Wellhead if a successful well is produced, if a duster the well is plugged and abandoned, no BOP or Wellhead left on site. At one time all successive casings were brought to the surface until liner hangers were introduced.

I think you are getting mixed up with a BOP and the Well head. Have you been researching online?
