DILI, July 17, 2024 (TATOLI) - Australia's Special Representative for Greater Sunrise, Steve Bracks, met today with Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to deliver a report on his observations during the feasibility study process for the Greater Sunrise project.

The brief meeting this morning at the Government Office was also attended by the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MPRM-tetun), Francisco da Costa Monteiro. "I have just met with Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão to report to him on my visit to the southern coast, in particular to see the vision of Greater Sunrise. The discussion went well and was very well. We have to wait for the study of the planned concept selection, which is expected to be completed in November of this year," said Steve Bracks.

Regarding the Greater Sunrise negotiations in progress, it is not certain whether it will be brought to Timor-Leste or Australia, but he is confident that Australia and Timor-Leste will find a solution.

First visit to China discusses continuation of cooperation. The Government of Timor-Leste and the Embassy of the Republic of China in Timor-Leste today once again discussed the preparation process for the visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta to China on July 27th, 2024. This meeting is to discuss preparations that have been made so far," said Deputy PM Francisco to journalists in Farol, this Monday. He stressed that the preparations mentioned are not only for the visit but also for the possibility of future cooperation.

Veterans ask the Australian Government to respect the decision regarding Greater Sunrise. 7/12/24

Members of the National Liberation Veterans and Combatants (VCLN) ask the Australian government to respect the decision made by the Timor-Leste government to pick up Greater Sunrise and bring it to Timor-Leste. Secretary General of the VCLN Task Force, Jorge Alves said that according to information provided by the international media, the Australian government has presented a proposal to Timor-Leste to let them use the pipeline to Australia and, in return, Australia will return to Timor-Leste 10% of its 20%, which was previously agreed during the maritime border negotiations. He added that the reason why Australia wants to make this offer is that China might be involved in the oil industry in Timor-Leste. However, VCLN rejected Australia's offer to give Timor-Leste a percentage of the pipeline and continues to demand that the pipeline must come to Timor-Leste.

Meeting with the Greater Sunrise Study Team. On July 10th, 2024, the Secretary of State for Professional Training and Employment, His Excellency Rogerio Araujo Mendonca, held a meeting with the Greater Sunrise Study Team, in the VIP Room of SEFOPE Kaikoli. The objective of this meeting was for the Greater Sunrise team, accompanied by representatives from Timor Gap, Woodside, and Osaka Gas, to discuss and have joint discussions on the potential of the local industry to contribute to LNG support and identify relevant priorities in the feasibility study or data analysis in order to be considered as information that will be integrated into the company's action plan.

Wood, a global leader in consulting and engineering, based in London, has been tasked with conducting the Greater Sunrise Concept Study. This study aims to provide a comprehensive development plan for the Greater Sunrise gas and condensate fields.

Prime Minister (PM) Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão received the Goodwill Ambassador of the President of the Republic

(PR) for investment and commerce in Southeast Asian region, Ong Bang Poh Michael, at the Government Palace in Dili on Monday (08/07/2023). During the meeting, they discussed the interests of the concerned parties from China and Hong Kong who came to explore some opportunities in the oil and gas sector and also in the banking and investment areas in Timor-Leste. The Prime Minister recommended cooperation with the relevant ministries to discuss these opportunities in order to advance the execution of investment projects in relevant areas.
