syngas to liquids only works economically at much larger scale. Its an expensive process, so you need large scale to make the numbers work. To venture into this field, the EQT gasifier would need to be much, much bigger.

Tar formation occurs during the gasificaton of most biomass. Not just gasification either. You'll probably find a good coating of it inside your chimney if you have a log burner, for example. Its a substance that is hard to handle and control. Its does not come from someone throwing tar in the bin.

if you think 'tars' might come from bitumen, then im afraid you need to study this technology a little more.

It all comes done to the tech. One can be as creative as ever in structuring deals and making them so attractive in terms of returns, that the project investor cannot say no.

I have experience in mass burn, with scars remaining from Advanced Thermal Conversion projects.
I am interested to lean more about this stock to see it it really is what it is being made out to be. As those who ‘know’ me from other boards, I’m more about the technical viability of a company’s proposition rather than the hype.

The gasifier used in the AirProducts plant has been in use with various feedstocks since 1983. But they couldn’t get it (the entire system) to work at commercial scale despite throwing $900m at it.

Thanks Dofmeister. That’s good information. Having dealt with performance and yield insurance before, there can be several caveats that affect the premiums, but the fact that it has one is a positive.

As for Teeside, Alfanar now own the assets.

Technology insurance. I read that they have completed the due diligence, but do we know the outcome?

Im very familiar with fluidised bed as a matter of fact. Im also very familiar with how gasifying anything that is not homogeneous has proved difficult for most developers - even ones with an AirProducts sized balance sheet.
Most gasifiers that are operating today are not fliudized bed and ones that are, are using homogeneous material. Hence my question about proof that they have run mixed, hetrogenous material through their system.

This, afterall, is what the UK business case is based on.

unfortunately, it really isnt that simple. Many have tried and failed miserably.
