I think before anyone gets carried away, it’s worth remembering the repeated call from VLS to the government for the right type of policy support and that without it, these plants may not be financeable.
I don’t know what this support actually is or what it means but from what I’ve picked up, it’s clearly vital to the business.

Well they’ve had no luck raising strategic finance in the past, so maybe a change of advisor is what they need.

Consultations take considerable time to progress. I’d question if this alluded policy could be delivered within a reasonable timescale (ie, before VLS needs more money)

However this proposal would enable VLS to make money from the part of the waste steam that is plastic, so is a good thing in principle.

Note the references to waste gases. This is to help people such as Lanzatech. (No affiliation, before any of you suggest it!)

VLS will have an estimate of the total cost. The FEED simply improves the accuracy of the estimate, to +/- 10%.

Thurg. My cost projection (GBP350m) is far from guess work. VLS have stated this estimated cost in their communication. Suggest you do you research before attempting to shoot me down.

I wish i was party to such inner workings as i might be able to get an idea of whats going on. The process engineering phase of FEED was funded by the recent raise - ie you are paying for it Thurg.
Shell threw in some coppers.

Only when the FEED is fully complete, will we know if this is a viable or not. The remaining FEED still isn't paid for if i understand correctly. I could be wrong on that point, as they did raise more than expected in the raise. But they have wages to pay of course.

with all of Shells might and resources, their light touch approach to SAF is staggering. Last year, Shell made $50m per DAY in profits, yet they could only muster a rounding error contribution toward SAF. Why dont they put a days worth of projfts into VLS and get the project moving - you need to ask why? What is it thats holding them back?
Others, such as BP have put 10's of millions into SAF - still a small amount compared to profits, but tens of multiples when compare to Shell.
This is not a negative element based on rumour. Its fact.

my point exactly. They dont make any themselves and get others to do the heavy lifting. They are just brokers.

Selling. Not making, investing, testing etc. Light touch.

Let’s be honest here. Shell have a light touch on anything to do with SAF. They don’t produce any of their own, they have only put a million or so into VLS and have no public firm plans for a commercial role out of the industry. Their involvement in the RR trial is a light touch as you can get. They didn’t make it, the didn’t ship it and they didn’t certify it. They put their name to it as its an easy PR win - just like the VLS project.

Now, the resignations at Shell may make some VLS investors nervous, but given their low cost, ‘by association’ only position with Vls, I don’t see any immediate impact. Longer term maybe so, especially when VLS need to find £100 million as a down payment on their first plant.

As for the Gevo, I dont really know them. My background is waste to energy and only in the last 2 years have got interested in other types of waste treatment such as what VLS is proposing.
I’ve seen many waste treatment ‘solutions’ come and go over the years, all of them promising breakthrough opportunities. Sadly, all they’d end up doing is purging money out of investors, getting wealthy in the process, and then giving up.
VLS seem to be going down a path of missing the key the steps that a new developer should tread. Don’t forget that VLS have only been at this since 2018 and are looking to build a £350m plant.
I do wish them all the best as we need to find alternatives, but do it properly.

Interestingly, Myles is considering VLS as a short term punt only. Maybe doesn’t see as a LTH?
