Retirement_plan,
"Additionally, for the UK , whilst we were in the UK, we had a whole load of EU nationals coming here " Legally" that caused a huge strain on the economy too.
What strain exactly might that be?
Polish plumbers, bricklayers, IT specialists, or simply people that actually want to work?
Being German, I arrived in Britain in the early 80's, with a view to experience another culture, one I knew from my English lesson text books - certainly never considered myself an immigrant (the standard of living in Germany then, and still today, is far superior than that " enjoyed" in the UK). I have always considerd myelf as a guest in someone else's country and continue to do so. However, when I look at the mess of the economic/ political landscape, I would consider leaving, if it were not for my wife, who was born in Jamaica, but is staunchly British. We have both contributed to the success of this country, without ever having to rely on state handouts - and enjoy a comfortable life style thanks to the work put in.
