Why are these Companies interested? Biggest reason is simply cancer biomarkers have been found to exist in circulating tumour cells (CTC's). Angle's Parsortix machine can catch these CTC's for DNA analysis. Why is this important? Many modern cancer drugs utilise biomarkers to target a cancer. Until now a sample of the original cancer tumour tissue is used to see if a person's cancer can be targeted in this way (to look for cancer biomarkers). Unfortunately, in the time between the biopsy and treatment (weeks or even months) the cancer evolves sometimes losing the biomarker flag or gaining other ones. So, an up-to-date analysis is really needed. How can this be done? By analysing CTC's caught from a standard blood sample. Parsortix takes a few hours to catch any CTC's, DNA analysis takes say 6 hours or so. In theory results could be obtained in a few days. There you have it.
