If the story is true, then my take is Putin is unhappy that Lavrov is reason the purposed meeting with Trump was cancelled.

Additionally it would indicate Putin wants a meeting and he must be fully aware that Trump only will agree to any meeting in the basis that a peace plan is on the table.

Trump cops a lot of stick, some of it rightly so in my opinion.

Before he came into office there was absolutely no one attempting to negotiate a peace settlement. I believe he deserves some recognition for trying to bring peace.

In my opinion this conflict is ripe for settlement, the terms of the settlement being a very difficult process.

The war has felt for sometime a stalemate and both sides struggling to make any progress.
