I think many Russians may disagree with that, but obviously this hasn’t worked out how Putin planned.

He has roughly 80% of the Donbas and may yet get 100% and Ukraine not in NATO. Putin will view that as a win. Will the population think the cost was worth it, I can’t answer that.

In my opinion there are two major issues to resolve before peace agreement, which are 20% of Donbass and security guarantees. Resolve these two then the other issues will be agreed quickly.

If Z can accelerate joining EU that would help sell peace settlement to Ukrainian public.

Both sides must be exhausted from the war and I’m sure both are at the point where peace is the favourable option. I’m sure a lot is going on in the background and not being played out in public. I read a comment from Putin in which he said talks shouldn’t be made in public. Also he said a prominent Russian businessman had recently met Z in Kiev for talks, but didn’t elaborate, not his style.

Putin stating Russia is prepared to compromise, provided Ukraine does the same.

The million dollar question will be the nature of these compromises.

In my opinion the statements recently made by Putin definitely appear less confrontational and aggressive.

Just can’t see how there is chance the application would succeed.

If full market value was received there is no case, but Russian exit taxes mean only 5% of market value received. The exit taxes are state law and EUA were unable to avoid.

EUA will argue that funds from the disposal were required as working capital to progress and used to add significant value to the company. That even allowing for significant exit taxes this option was chosen and voted through by a significant majority of shareholders.

Maybe PSB should apply for tax refund from state, but obviously that won’t happen.

I’m no legal expert but I fail to see how the case can succeed.

Dmitry Ananyev was a shareholder in EUA, not WT.

The transaction was put to shareholders and approximately 75% agreed to the sale.

Last the current Russian penalties mean 60% discount is applied to full market value and additionally a 35% tax imposed on the full market value. Meaning seller receives 5% of the market valuation.

So shareholders voted through the disposal and current Russian economic sanctions mean seller receives only 5% of market valuation.

Aside from EUA not selling the asset, how would a claim stand.

Finally EUA would argue, aside from potential risk of nationalisation (which was never elaborated in) the sale raised significant funding, avoiding dilution of shareholders, particularly relevant as Directors have significant shareholding.

In another article (that I can’t locate now) Budanov said he believes there is a potential peace agreement terms that Russia maybe agreeable to.

Numourous comments by various parties recently hinting at the war approaching its end.

Marco Rubio also stating US sees outlook changing and the possibility of stepping in again to peace talks again.

Merz has stated that there could be a possibility that Ukraine is given provisional entry to EU without full rights. The bit I found interesting was he also stated this would aid the peace process.

If Z is seeking a way to sell a negotiated peace agreement to the Ukrainian public, access to EU would be a big plus.

Budanov made comments along the same lines approximately 2/3 weeks ago “peace is much closer than many realise”

Ukraine negotiators flying to Miami for peace talks with US.

I wonder if in the next few weeks a breakthrough in regards a settlement is reached.
