Roundtable Discussion; The Future of Mineral Sands. Watch the video here.
Tasty, I see your point and I hate that people shoot you down for a legitimate question. I think it's good to have an open discussion and thrash these things out. There's no use in blocking/reporting people who raise a valid point. So, playing devils advocate I would also ask: what benefit is there in making that mask layer truly antiviral or just like the standard layers that catch the virus? The antiviral masks we have here last 7 hours. So what benefit does that have over catching and holding the virus for 7 hours before disposal? I believe, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, that the standard masks could have a build up of virus and eventual "leakiness" of viral particulates that render the mask useless. However, with the P2P mask, perhaps the virus builds up, is killed, and therefore any leakiness wouldn't matter?
I would also like some more scientific explanation behind it. The information published so far isn't detailed enough (in saying that I do have a PhD in medical research so I'm really looking for that extra detail and would be very grateful if someone can enlighten me).
Tasty don't be disheartened when 10-15 people here shoot you down when you raise a very valid point. As I said, we need to discuss this. I personally think the antiviral mask is better due to the leakiness issue that I propose. Naturally, I would like to see evidence for this though. Nonetheless, great idea, great concept. These will be in huge demand and I firmly believe the sp will rocket.
GLA and DYOR (really)
Some of the "sheeple" who decide to mask up are actually medical research scientists, like myself. Don't know whether to trust my decades of scientific devotion or the bulletin board/social media heroes who have a flippant opinion on an area they obviously know very little about.
To people questioning the relevance of masks post-vaccine. Masks will most definitely be required for the foreseeable future. This pandemic has highlighted that. With an ever increasing population, pandemics like this one will unfortunately only become more frequent.
Keeping to the here and now though, the vaccine will be available to 1.5b people by the end of next year. What do the other 6b people do? Also decide to leave their masks at home? Come on. Additionally, the virus seems to be mutating in a similar fashion as influenza - therefore yearly vaccines will be required as with the flu. The flu vaccine, however, does not protect everyone from the flu obviously. The same will be true for corona. Masks will therefore act as the buffer where vaccines may have "missed a few people".
Further, I don't see why we would have one approach (e.g. vaccine) and abandon all others. Imagine a world where we have the vaccine, masks AND people who learn to wash their hands. Utopia.
These masks will be valid for a very long time to come, if not forever...

And not just masks!
Exciting stuff coming with Gyrometric as well
Even if all went to plan with the vaccine, they say that max no. of people that can get it by END OF 2021 would be 1.5billion. What about the other 6 billion?
The mask will always be required and paves the way for protection against other respiratory viruses. This has a bright future ahead!
Even if the vaccine miraculously cured corona next week in all 7billion people, we'd still have a product that could be used for other respiratory viral diseases. Anyway, corona is here to stay, despite the vaccine. Combinatorial prevention with both vaccinations and these masks (plus the usual wash hands and distancing which go without saying) will halt the virus in its tracks. So all good here!
Oh and gyrometric...
Nice to see some posts tonight that are actually worth reading (DG and TLM). It's a breath of fresh air.
Haters will hate but you get them on most boards. Just have to ignore them as they really are a waste of time; and time is money ;)
If anyone missed the announcement, there will be a webinar for YGEN to discuss their Covid19 response.
Oct 21st, 10-11am
This latest contract in Japan just goes to show how Yourgenes specialised toolkit can have a truly global audience and market. St George's one day, Japan the next. One with a diagnostics kit, the other with bioinformatics Software.
The SP will reflect this in good time! Very positive.
Forget that....... I must have a seriously out of date calendar to hand! Too busy trawling through BBs!
I hope you mean Mon 11th (tomorrow) as, according to my calendar, the next Mon 12th is in April 2021...
2Mio just bought? Don't know what's going on but I like it
Unlikely given their aspirations for genomic expansion
Potential reasons - many. Actual reason - no idea.
But no matter, there are some meaty buys to counter it.
bakky, you're absolutely right about genomics being the future of healthcare (in both research and clinical settings). Gone are the days where the old-school methods were sufficient. Nowadays it's all about big data and personalised medicine based on ones genetics. We are already in the age of genomics, particularly in basic research, but still have some way to go to fully implement it in healthcare for diagnostics and therapeutics - so really perfect timing for YGEN to get involved to a greater degree.
Best thing with YGEN is holding and doing something more productive like gardening (while being confident that things are under control and soon enough the sp will reflect this).
Not worried in the slightest. YGEN has been steadfast the past few months through countless uncertainties. Even seeing it sail through the bloodbath yesterday was very reassuring.
Patience will be rewarded. So many companies go for month or years within a narrow sp range and then rocket all of a sudden. Hopefully it will be the same here, and I don't see why not.
GLA!
Are we likely to get much info tomorrow from the AGM on it's own or does it need to be released in an RNS beforehand?
Cheers!
