Thank you for your comments on solvency.

I am a simple sole who invests only in FTSE companies. I read from the so called experts that the main reason the share price dropped so much on results morning, as opposed to Aviva was solvency ratio?

I invested to achieve capital gains and reasonable dividend returns. The proportions of each varies in my portfolio. I also hold 10,000 RR bought at 80p and BAE.

So not complaining that LGEN is my worst performing holding, just irritating for such a presidious Company. As I said before I can set of my capital losses in LGEN (bought at £2.79) against my other holdings when I have to sell some soon to free up some cash.

I didn't say that. However, its solvency ratio, an indicator of financial resilience, fell to 217%, down from 223% a year earlier and below estimates. This is the main reason why it's share price dropped so much on results.

Whereas Aviva's solvency ratio markedly increased.

But Aviva is up 43% YTD. Also big inrease in the dividend. Solvency also excellent. L&G all the exact opposite. I'm just saying.

That's the way to run a successful company. Can we please have Amanda at L&G.

Wondered why it is in reverse again?!!

"RBC Capital downgraded Legal & General Group PLC (LON:LGEN) from Sector Perform to Underperform on Tuesday, while lowering its price target to GBP2.20 from GBP2.45.

The downgrade reflects Legal & General's significant exposure to "intensifying competitive pressures and softening demand" in the UK pension risk transfer (PRT) market, where the company holds a leading position."

Be careful about buying for the long term. I bought 6 years ago at £2.79. The share price was £2.65 in 2015!! So you can see why I'm frustrated. I now need to sell at a capital loss, but at least I can offset my capital gains from Aviva. Yes I was silly to buy LGEN, especially when I had previousy lost a lot of money on 2 endowment mortgages in the 1980's.

Dear oh dear. FTSE at an all time high and LGEN share price down big and falling!! Dividend increase at below inflation and a further big fall inevitable at ex dividend on 21st August. Clearly no confidence in this failing Company under Simões. Still the lemmings are buying in? Things need to change, and soon.

I thought that might stir things up among the die hards!!

Ok so the Board is not interested in the performance of the share price against the FTSE? I think not. It is a key determinant of the Companies health and CEO's performance. That dismal graph should be displayed in the Boardroom.

Also that the dividend increase has been reduced to a below inflation 2%. Don't forget that HMRC gets over 8% and over 33 % for us higher rate taxpayers. This will no doubt increase further if Rachel Thieves gets her way. Also take account of inflation over the years. And what is the return to shareholders after significant buybacks? All in all not a good story.

Thinking long term or short term with this dog is a waste of time. You will be disappointed either way. Best to look for better performing stock IMHO

The only way this share will improve is when a new more dynamic CEO is appointed. Simões us a lame duck . Just look at the movement today. FTSE is up 40 points and again LGEN is in the red.

Just look at Aviva over 5 years. Up 130%. Now that's stellar, compared to the laggard LGEN.

Ok but long term - over the last 5 years the FTSE 100 is up 50%. Over the same period LGEN has risen a measly 18%!! That is very poor performance in anyone's book. Yes the dividend is good but CEO's performance are judged on share price as well.

This share continues to seriously underperform the FTSE. Can anyone explain why?

For example, RBC seem to be selling one one day then giving a poor rating, which drops the price significantly. Then buys up the stock for a tidy profit. Or am I being cynical?

The share price always seems to rise on the day when dividends are reinvested. I bought my shares 6 years ago for £2.79, so nursing a capital loss. It's reasonable to assume that the share price would increase over this period to track the FTSE, which was around 7,200 at the time. Also all the buybacks have done nothing. Yes the dividend is good but needs to be in proportion. We all have to sell at some time or if not the taxman will get a chunk via inheritance.

Silly me. I opted to reinvest my dividend into more shares, bought at around £2.57. Now I've lost more capital as the shares go below £2.50. Another bad week of underperformance!!

Just glad I sold some yesterday. I had a feeling Simões was going to say something!! Clearly the market has little confidence in the board and his dismal record after a year at the helm. Also the capital value of my dividend reinvestment at £2.57 is reducing day by day.

In the top 20 FTSE fallers again today. Heading back towards base camp at £2.50.

I only reinvest the dividends in my ISA as I assume they are then not taxable. The rest outside the ISA I pay away.

IWeb show the dividend paid but only available to reinvest. The cash doesn't usually appear in my current account until 3 or more working days have passed.

I see that Aviva, Phoenix and even ABRDN are up well today. LGEN is again one of the biggest FTSE losers!!?

Larry6 - Unfortunately IWeb keep your dividend for a few days. I suppose they like the interest on your money!! Expect it on Tuesday or perhaps Wednesday next week.

Well that rise in share price didn't last long, as per usual. Now that my reinvested shares were bought at the highest price the same old underperformance against the FTSE is back again. Same as it ever was!!

I won't get my dividend payout from IWeb until at least next Tuesday!!? Disappointing, but at least they don't charge fees.

I reinvest in my ISA. I had thought that if so many shares are being bought as reinvestment today the share price would rise. Evidently not so??
