To my simple mind, the implication of doing such comparitives is that JIM shares are too cheap and another writer's suggestion of £4 may not be far wrong. I can see myself buying a few more at this morning's price.

Quite right Mala, they can't really be compared when JIM averages 85% ROI vs only 67% at HL. The implication is that JIM is a vastly more efficent outfit than HL but one would have to do some digging or ask board members why this should be. No matter, what it really means as we all know, is that shareholders of JIM have done consistently better than those of HL for the last few years.

The P/E ratio means very little as it can change from one day to the next irrespective of the actual performance of the business and it's future prospects. Yes I know exactly how it is calculated but so what?, it is very vague. Yield is a much better measure IMO so long as the BOD is not borrowing in order to pay big dividends as happened in the case of Carrillion.

I am still doing the DRIP at present and got my new shares at £3.38 it seems. Not sure how that happened but rather pleasing considering the present SP.

@barchid, fair doos but as my mrs says;- "What are you going to do with the money if you sell, you can't just leave it sitting in the bank doing nothing." When I occasionally sell out, I always have somewhere in mind to profitably put the cash even if it's just to buy a new car LOL.

I understand your decision Alpharius (wonder what that means) but I when I find a goodie I tend to stick with it. I found another AIM goodie about 12 years ago which has to date made me almost 700%.

Hey SD235, But it is not an insurance company. It sold the insurance business nearly two years ago and today does pensions, investment management and life assurance which is not really insurance but a long term savings system.

I see some silly buggers have sold 6000, must be a bit mental. If you say 400 dukey I will make 100% in less than six months.

@nuri: NAV is largely meaningless my friend, it's earning ability that really matters. I have a holding of shares with SP of £3.40 but only 15p NAV; largely meaningless because they have been paying yields around 7% for the last five years which is why I have them. DYOR.

Did listen to Mr Hollinsworth' boring word salad for a few minutes but got fed up with it. My portfolio has done quite a bit better than his over the last year.

Gavster, How wrong can you be, any company like this one which consistently produces good profits and high dividend yields has got to be worth a punt.

Ratbags: You are so right my friend I know of nobody who's had it and our friends know nobody either. Out of a population of 100,000 in our district, just 212 have supposedly died of it but that may not be the true number; that is just two tenths of one per cent and yet many are still wandering about the shops with those known to be useless masks on.

Erm have to contradict robleo (no offence) but the average "financial adviser" is o-level standard and not very professional IMO and in my experience. I am well qualified to make these remarks having been a qualified CFO for many years before retirement.

Accountant here: Forget all that blah blah about deprecation and deferred tax assets, the major issues are 1. They have not made any useful profits recently - should be at least £1.5m per annum after tax. 2. They are far too highly geared.

Doesn't really matter - they advertise often and Martin Lewis always reminds folk to get a quote. There was a small set back last year but that happened to a lot of businesses did it not? Lots of shares are showing lows at present, possibly due to covid worries and of course the bouts of madness which the market suffers from periodically.
