YKIR; you do realize that without a change of mandate the interim government is not able to govern fully. Policy eg Phulbari will be for the next elected party. I should concentrate on educating Yunus on the fact that OPM at Phulbari is the best policy for preventing the climate from warming that Bangladesh can implement if he is given a mandate.

I was musing on the Islamic party although I hate them with a passion I expect many AL voters will switch to them and the youth could be attracted. I was thinking a coalition with a new party growing from the Interim Government and Jamaat-e-Islami would break the mould.

Their website says this "Severe chaotic situation is prevailing in the country due to absence of an elected government" which I see in print a lot, as if Bangladesh was better off before under AL when really it fell from power as there was nothing left to steal but one presumes Jamaat must think that was OK! as that was a government but the chaos is a result of corruption which Yunus has to root out from all the institutions of power or at least identify and monitor for improvement.

The interim government should come to see Phulbari as greener than importing coal and China is needed to make a channel in the Teesta river for taking coal to Payra and to build resevoirs to fill for agriculture to use in the paddies and when it is in spate to prevent floods.

In the current predicament every post is worthless iro our investment. Decisions in the country have to be crucial ones taken wisely and eventually Phulbari should come about. They are making fundamental and far reaching changes which dwarf considerations of GCM shareholders. I can see a time when they will have a quick turnaround here even under Yunus; needs must when it reaches the government agenda.

YKIR- you should have created a new header. My take is everyone is having their say and in your link, the army is right that more time is needed. Yunus has assembled (I presume) a knowledgeable and grounded team which is probably quite old and likely to be wise. Time is needed to sort out the mess and mend trust in politics. The army is respected as a UN peacekeeper and a bigger role on this front in Bangladesh may be required during a reset but it takes time. I advocate a sort of amnesty for police as they adjust themselves to life without AL at the top as should have happened in Saddam's Iraq. As far as Phulbari is concerned; if the reasons for refusal are re-examined there could be a quick turnaround with China, their helper, in the wings. Formalizing the interim government to enable decisions like Phulbari is actually a good move when you consider everything. A quick return to BNP in power will not reset Bangladesh policing and energy when impartial judgements are required.

I think you overthink that Digit. In my mind it is essential for the Interim government and green lobby students to take on Phulbari if they want green policy to work. Importing brown coal is raising the sea level and melting glaciers according to their reasoning but they have not yet seen that there new power stations can be fed with good local coal for their lifetime saving on the foreign fuel bill/transport/accidents/foreign interference and building resilience in power supply.

We have done our best to expose the energy supply idiocy and now we have to work on the merits of delivering a greener outlook that includes OPM.

It is very silly to pick the best talent and then bar it from future Bangladesh decision taking positions and leave students adrift come the election. The country does not exist in isolation and should not expect to be immune from the birth throes of renewables. They need land to be repurposed for that and a sensible productive route to run the businesses they need.
