There really are a load of misconceptions. The moonshot will allow a passport/certificate saying you are negative to go about normal business. The comparatively few who are positive and their contacts will isolate until they too are not infectious and get their passport. The mass test is to target the negative majority otherwise it is a waste of money.

It is a pity AS is not trusted to give impartial advice on all the tests available and strategy because lockdowns and antibody tests are no solution because......over to you AS.

The regulatory process bends to political will in both convenient for government but inconvenient for shareholder fashion.

AfamaMan- what prompted me to post was Gove talking about liberty and freedom -emotive words and US belief system but the point is there is no alternative to lockdown unless you either let covid rip and allow busness/airline/carehome pay to protect their own space or let governments take control and mass test is the only workable weapon in the armoury at the moment.

PL- the budget is going on gearing up for mass testing and partial compliance needs eliminating in the hearts and minds stage not as a last minute addition. This is the only effective strategy and implementation is key. Who is going to avoid a test if they are able- yes- the street revellers in Nottingham and their sympathisers.
If money is going to be wasted I would prefer testing to be done only where private money buys them. The government should come clean on direction of attack. The professor from Liverpool University spelt out a strategy on the news on BBC which included mass testing.

What is the point of mass testing if the taking of the test is voluntary? The 2metre rule is not voluntary and some Nottingham residents it was said will be prosecuted. How much more damaging is a policy where you can opt out of the mass test-there is absolutely no point in testing if voluntary so why is the Redcar exercise voluntary. It would have been ideal use of the army to make sure the test was taken or be reported as similar or worse (I would say) to breaking the 2m rule. I have just heard Gove on Andrew Marr say national lockdown disastrous to economy and does not want to restrict peoples liberty in the event of hospitals being overfull and bearing this in mind and the billions lockdowns do cost then a mass test strategy that costs billions to save many more billions does require compulsory testing just as the current rule of 2metres is compulsory. A soft touch will not defeat the covid enemy which takes no prisoners.
I see failure to participate means isolation for 10 days in Slovakia but difficult to police and you could legitimately prosecute an asymptomatic for breaking isolation easier than a conscientious objector. Parliament needs to vote through a mass testing strategy that is going to work or what is the point of rolling them out?

Two adjacent articles in The Times yesterday. Melbourne 112 days lockdown now with only a 4 cases last week. Kashgar, China tested 4.7m in 4 days and reduced the infection rate from 40/day to 20/day and good monitoring with tracing those cases. Boris's strategy is evidently the right one for quick results. Redcar is saliva test and follow up tests over 10 days and begins 0n 23/11. How can a community survive with 112 day lockdown and still restricted to 10 people gatherings and 15 mile travel radius unless to work.

This will be very instructive for the army. We know a test with a 15 minute result to isolate infectious cases should be a winning strategy and the army can deliver the message to isolate if positive. Would be nice if Boris announced a passport policy that is additional to the test and trace, there would be no harm in gradual educational input for effective roll out.

It appears the Civil Service has found a new front to bash No 10. Harding defending track and trace with doubts about rct s with saliva . Other public health reactionaries against the Moonshot wading in aswell. The proof should be in the pudding though.

The government monopoly of news is because they will issue a proclamation saying the strategy is to test everyone in areas subject to tier rules starting at the highest tier and when statistics permit the tiers will be abolished. This proclamation in fanfare style by Boris can only be made when moonshot manufacture is possible. I am sure AS would have informed the market more about setbacks if he wasn't gagged even though I think the government information strategy is misguided. The population would adhere to a strategy that was feasible and gave them hope making the current situation more bearable. The top scientists and NHS might also get their haeds around what specificity can deliver with the use of a passport for clean bill of health as opposed to test and trace.
