Sorry guys but this is just not factual at all. Crew raise the gear when a positive rate of climb is confirmed on both the altimeter and vertical speed indicator. This is done seconds after take off and performance category A criteria means that the landing gear has been retracted or the retraction sequence has stated at screen height, which is 35ft on a dry runway and 15ft on a wet runway. Leaving the landing gear down above this height happened to me once in over 35 years of flying.

The industry in the West put a value on life of $300,000 25 years ago. Dont ask me how that was worked out, but it included Europe, N America and Australia at the time.

Obviously the video is horrific and when a pilot is involved in human failing the consequences are often massive.
