The Devonian rock at 5,300m, a technical question and maybe the real future?4 Nov 2019 11:03
Just a thought and a big question ideally for the technically knowledgeable.
Based on the A5, A6, A8 and 801 wells it would appear Caspian struggles to flow oil with the big issue being permeability within a carbonate rock formation. That I think is the big challenge at 4,300m which hopefully will be resolved by BH et al.
However below those 4,300m targets there are the Devonian targets which I am guessing will be many millions of years older and in a very different rock type. The Devonian rock I have personally seen is much harder and more like granite given it’s age and previous “Cooking.”
So is it likely the carbonate permeability issues are there in those lower targets? possibly much less so.
Maybe it’s time to bypass the “Easy” 4,300m targets and chase up the really big ones deeper given the success of A8 on its vertical drilling to 4,300m which was on time and on budget.
Time to think bigger? Possibly!
If the knowlegeables could comment I would be grateful.
