I told a friend that I owned vod shares & she said that the sp had done badly, but I think she may have based this on misleading share charts. According to the google finance share chart the vod sp has approx halved since 21/2/14 from 4.33. In fact the sp was approx 2.20 on this date. What happened was an approx 1 for 2 share swap which meant that if you had £1000 worth of shares they would now be worth 1/2 that & I guess the graph is trying to take this into account, this would be ok if it was a simple 1 for 2 swap, but vod wasn,t because shareholders received approx £500 in cash & verizon shares meaning they lost nothing. The reason vod did a 1 for 2 swap was to prevent the sp falling by 1/2 which would have falsely caused the ftsi 100 to take a dive,therefore an accurate graph should not show this fall in sp after the 21/2/14. Sorry to be pedantic,but there's a lot of misleading info out there, especially regarding vod shares.,.Perhaps I should stop reading share charts!?

Thanks for the explanation, I've never heard of the film, can I take it that you have heard of toy story, woody & buzz lightyear? to be honest my bp moment was not buying the shares when they were privatised as the grey market predicted a fall in the sp. What puzzles me is why driftking replied to my most aimed at you, perhaps you can do me a favour & put him right on what actually happened when vod sold its share in verizon! I get the impression you were a holder of vod shares so would know exactly what happened, I can only assume that driftking wasnt, hence his strange post!! By the way' of course I realise that my all eggs in one basket is perceived by most people to be reckless, but I do have other income & strongly believe in vod.

I think your the one who's getting confused. I've owned vod shares for about 18 years & have followed the sp on a daily basis. the share dropped to about 90p around 2002, I know it was1.11 on 13/ 11 /2002. Im not sure when it was 3.20. but In fact according to my records it hit 3.55 on 1/3/ 2000. As for the selling of verizon this didn't greatly effect the share price as the free verizon shares & spec divi compansated for the fact vod share holders lost approx 1/2 of there holding when the new shares were issued, so frankly you need to get your facts right!! by the way the vod sp was 221 on 12/2/14.. these were the old vod shares, The sp on 5/3/ 14 (new vod shares) was 248 but fell back to 218 on 1/5/ 14. how long have held vod shares?? not long I suspect!!

Ok looking at bp share graph, big fall 04/10 to 06/10, so take the point!! But BP is not the only ftsi share to take a big dive, so I'm thinking gerry took a big hit, on that fall !!!??? vod were 90p about 9 years ago after hitting 3.20, many years before, so the bp fall is no big deal,just a bit more sudden! So can I assume, if vod opens at 110 tomorrow (BP moment)! Gerry will be steaming in??!!
