I think you read the vodafone maturing mandatory convertible bond & associated share buy back programme (on google) & also Lord Adams post. However, I think vod are still a buy, for many other reasons.

216 close is wrong, that was yesterdays close. this happens quite a lot on this site I think it was about 227.

char. I've had trouble finding the closing price, but i guess up 10p or more? If the price holds tomorrow then I think my comment that the sp was under priced may ring true? still a long way to the goldman target, but who knows. 2.50 will do me as well.

Just to wind you up, goldman sachs target has just gone to 3 pounds. If only!? then I would be happy!? Do they know something (results tomorrow), or is it, goldman sucks!?

I think vodafone should change its name to, what goes up,must come down! Great for spread betters, am I tempted? that is the big question for me at the moment.

After Lord Adams wise words I've just read the details of the, Maturing mandatory convertible bond & associated share buy back programme, (google it) & have realised that I'm way out of my depth when it comes to understanding the complicated nature of such matters. If anybody can make sense of it , please let me know.

Your post about the share buy back is interesting & I'm sure you know more about it than me, but at over 2 billion shares bought back so far ( 7% of the total shares in issue) this seems unusual? Is there not a connection between recent gains & the buy back or is it just coinsidence? Having said that the sp is just above the start of the buy back on 1st September so lets hope the sp keeps rising. If anybody else can explain the point of this massive buy back let us know because I confess I don't really fully understand it? Is it just a way to give money back to shareholders without paying a special divi which may involve paying tax & any special divi would come out of the sp? But anyway if its good for the sp then I hope they just keep buying! I suppose as the average price paid in the share buy back is less than the current sp, that's profit, I guess.

Gerry557. Can I take your last post as a yes, there under priced, or should I say undervalued!!!?? My take on your opinion (correct me if i'm wrong) is vod is worth more than the current valuation, but as long as the market marks the sp down, then buy at a discount , 1.80 to 2.00 if you can get it??!!

driftking27. Hi, After the big rise on the dj today, I'm thinking your crazy boom comment might make sense,& of course I'm nervous, but do you think if wall st collapses, the ftsi & vod will follow?? My point is, wall st, may be overvalued, but is the ftsi??. The djia on wall st, has historically, up to 3 yrs ago, traded at twice the ftsi 100. but now its more than 3 times the ftsi!! So would a correction on wall st, just bring it back on parr with the ftsi??? OK, spare the," if wall sneezes, every body catches a cold". But basically there may be a crazy boom on wall st, but there is no crazy boom on the ftsi or with the vod sp!!

After a promising 1st 3/4 of the day, the vod sp collapsed after 2.30pm, I assumed this was down to a poor opening on the djia, but was surprised to see the dj up 100 points!

By the way vod is mainly quoted on the ftsi not the dow jones (just on nasdaq) Do I think there should be a re brexit vote? no, because I think it would undemocratic. but brexit takes time, it was probably in the the small print. Frankly the lesson to be learnt, is referendums dont work, Just let the government decide, not the uninformed (including me) & cynical public.
