Hi patient, you said to skid, you might as well track the ftse perhaps. How do you track the ftse, buy all the shares in the ftse100. Please explain what you mean? Buying shares in only one company is obviously risky, but far less costly than spreading the risk over several company's for obvious reasons. Thanks & good luck.

Cont' premature posting!! I don't want to sound negative here, but I recently saw a report that said vod had a 40% chance of going bankrupt within 2 years. I don't believe that, but vod is very highly geared with its debt, & most of its value is intangible, so quite risky & subject to poss or neg irrational movements. By high in my last post, I meant high risk.

Hi richard10, Sorry if my post may have a been bit rude? (I don't want to upset too many in one day!!) I think telecoms are high at the moment, vod has massive debt, but possible massive upside too.

Hi patient. Tell Sid, now those were the days, when making money was a doddle.. Tell Sid was actually b.gas. but b.t. were good as well + many others , Electricity & B/society shares were very good. Now days much harder, but you seem to be doing o.k. so good luck. The main thing is to be prepared to lose, & if you do, accept it.

Mikey, I suspect that if I, or anybody else met you in real life, you wouldn't be such a miserable git, because if you were, I doubt you would have any friends at all. The fact is, I don't know why the sp has done so badly today, but constantly moaning & coming up with your crazy doom & gloom predictions doesn't inspire confidence in someone who has worked for vod for 28 years. You own vod, so sell them if you think they are going sub £1. You also have share options on vod shares. Lucky you, heads you win, tails you get your money back, so you are in an enviable position. Can't help you with the chip on your shoulder though, sorry about that.

richard10. Just because vod is in the ftse100, doesn't mean that if the ftse goes vod up, vod goes up. Sometimes the ftse goes up & vod goes down, & sometimes the ftse goes down & vod goes up. That's the way it works, nothing odd about it. Perhaps telecoms are just out of favour. But of course if I knew the answer to all these questions, I would probably be very rich.

Nasdaq currently up about 2%, vod on nasdaq up about 1.6% Not a big difference. Compare like for like.

I don't know why vod are doing badly today, do you? Perhaps down to the negativity of some of its staff? If someone owned a business, would they knowingly hire someone as negative as Mikey? Probably not. Lets hope ,as patient says, it catches up tomorrow?

Patient, well done with your deals. Sounds to me though, that you are just lowering your average in a falling market. Good for you, but assuming you are paying 1/2 (stamp duty) + on every buy back, you will lose in the long run, unless you are very lucky, which I hope you are. If I had bought £100,000 worth of shares when the sp was last at £1.30, I would have lowered my average by a lot, but at todays price, of course I am glad, I didn't. It is virtually impossible to make money day trading when faced with 1/2 stamp duty. I suspect professional traders don't pay stamp duty , but deal in a different way. If you buy & sell a share once every day, you would need a massive edge of well over 120% per year. (1/2% x 240 trading days in a year. Of course that doesn't even include broker commission on top. If only it was that easy, we would all be rich.

Hi, Patient. Can we take it you didn't buy at 1.08 then, but got in lower. Good luck anyway. I think there is a feeling the results will be good, Lets hope so. The only certainty though, is what ever happens, it will be doom & gloom from Mikey.

Hi, Can I assume when you say Viacom, you mean Verizon? As for 2004, the vod sp was about £1.40, so I don't know where you get your info from. The vod historical sp is very complicated, so much so, that some google historical data is false. But you may be talking about the Mannisman (sic) deal. Very complicated. Biggest **** up vod ever made, but that's history. I have had vod shares for about 20 years, more fool me eh, & originally got them by having shares in orange(1st time round) then, mannisman, then vod + bought more. I have vod sp prices going back 20 years. OK, just me then! Emotionally involved?? Me ??

buzzby. The 5 to 3 has only happened once, & the price stayed about the same, but we all got verizon shares & a special payment which made up for the loss of shares. It worked out about even. The share price however, has plummeted since, from a high of about £2.50, but there are many possible reasons for that fall. Markets change, & vod fell out of favour. Debt, fierce competition, etc. etc. As for alba, it could be 5 to 1, or 1 to 5. Good luck.
