Colbee. It is about earnings per share & market cap. When vod buys back shares that increases the E.P.S. but the money they use to buy back the shares comes out of the market cap. So it is not a one way bet. The recent buy backs however seem to be working & I agree with them, but I could be wrong. Some don't agree with buy backs.

PRK1. The vod buybacks are very important & relevant at the moment with vod shares. Are they good, or bad? Do they add value or not ? A very important question. So perhaps you can give a sensible opinion instead of just being a PRICK. No smugness intended.

Boo boo. You say buybacks are a way to return excess cash to shareholders. I am a shareholder, but I haven't received any excess cash from the buybacks. You are just reprinting things you read without thinking about it. I am not against buy backs, but you should try thinking before you post. Buy backs can be good, or bad. Just look at the sp after the buy backs to get the answer. Please don't just reprint stuff without thinking about it.

Colbee. Obviously you made a loss on your 1st sandwich & you ended up buying 2 sandwiches when your only really wanted one, but time to move on mate. Being 50% right is not too bad, so good luck with that one.

Boo you clearly do not understand it. Colbee is 100% right with his 4.50 post. But completely wrong with his 4.38 post, but one day he will get it? I hope. If I or anybody buy shares including vod buying buy backs done through a broker & the sp falls that is a loss, if the sp rises that is a gain. If you don't get that, you should not be playing the stock market. You need to go back to basis common sense mathematics.

Colbee. I think you are one who is hopelessly confused. After reading your 1st paragraph I totally agreed with you, but then you go & spoil it. Of course vod makes money buying back shares if the sp rises afterwards, but loses it if the sp falls. As I said basic maths common sense, but perhaps not so common in your case. We, the shareholders own vodafone by owning shares, so if the sp rises we the shareholders make money, but if the sp falls we lose money. In the past vod have bought back a lot of vod shares at a much higher price than todays price, so they lost money & that was reflected in the big falls in the vod share price a few years ago. Hi rob. So I gather you sold some vod at the low 80's but you said you were going to sell up the rest at 88p. Changed your mind? 90p + is very likely. Hold on is my advice, the buy backs are working. good luck Amigo.

Colbee. Buy backs increase the value of shares only if the sp rises after the buy backs, if the sp falls then the opposite. This is basic common sense mathematics. Lately vod has made a lot through buy backs as the sp has been rising. However in the past vod has lost money when the has fallen after the buy backs. Vod in the past has bought back many shares for much higher than todays price, but lately things are looking very good for the buybacks.

Boo. You say when we reach £1 it is worth 82p in old money. If you had bought vod at 82p & the sp goes to £1, you have made 18p per share, old or new.

Boo X 4. When the sp was 67p, vod had about 30 billion shares in circulation. M. cap. 20 billion divided by 0.67 = 29.85 billion. Now with the sp about 88.6p there are about 24 billion shares in circulation due to buy backs. 24 billion x 88.6p = 21.26 billion. So not far out based on your figures. I think it is clear that the buy backs are working & vod could easy reach £1 soon. The sp is higher because each vod share is worth a bigger % of the company due to buy backs.

Savage. Fair enough mate, but I am baffled why, as you neither hold nor short vod shares you bother coming on here predicting a possible, but very unlikely fall of 17% in the vod share price by next Friday. Nobody on here is interested.
