Thank you nezlob for your reply. If vod cancel the shares they have bought back, then we the shareholders will gain from there being less shares in circulation, so increasing E.P.S. (earnings per share) so obviously if vod buy the shares back at a lower price than the now price, then that is a profit for vod shareholders. If they pay more, it is a loss. This is of course on a day to day basis, but that is the only way you can judge it because we cant see into the future. Only moll-man or savage can do that,(according to them). Good finish today for vod, after a bad retrace yesterday. Lets all hope we can get to £1 soon.

Nezlob. When you say vod have not made anything from the share buy backs, who do you think vod is? I, & all other vod shareholders are vod, so if the the value of our shares go up because there are less in circulation more than the cost of buying back those shares, then of course vod (owned by its shareholders) has made money. It is very important to understand buy backs. It does not matter if they cancel the shares if they pay less than the market value then that is a profit for vod shareholders. Buy backs or pay of debt, you can not decide unless you understand these points. Vod buy back shares, sp falls, a loss. Vod buy back shares, sp rises, a profit. It's not rocket science, just common sense. One of the reasons the vod sp has done so badly in the past (over 2 years ago) is because vod bought back shares way over the now price & the sp kept falling, until 2 years ago. You need to look at the history of vod buy backs, & the falling share price. I don't need to because I have been a vod shareholder for 30 years or so. Poor me.

Booboo. Great day today, but you have a lot to learn. You are the one who is confused. Don't just believe what you want to believe, ref everything you want to know regarding vod investments. Nezlob. Well I think we should agree to disagree on that one. But of course vod have made money on the share buy back in the form you say as the shares in circulation become worth more. This is all just common sense maths. Vod has spent some of its capital buying the shares, but made more on the increase in value of the shares in circulation.

Funny how the often criticised so called pizza lady with dodgy glasses is now praised. I always supported her, & it looks like I was right to do so. Of course vod may have set backs & no doubt the usual negative posters will come back out of the woodwork. But for now, it is nice to come to a vod forum that is positive. Let's get vod out of the £ shop.

Thanks fleccy. That the 1st time I have got an answer to that question on here. I was told once that it doesn't matter, but of course it does. As for paying off debt or doing buy backs, I think vod should do both, vod made over 5% profit on its buy backs yesterday using the current share price, so it has made the years 5% interest back in one day on the over 6 million shares bought. I still don't get why you used to say, ( you only lose when you sell). If you had not sold a load of vod shares you would be in profit on vod now, so you seem have done the opposite. Are you fleccy 1 or fleccy 2. Remember your graph?. Good luck though.

Fleccy. You say if the % rate on debt is low why pay it off. I agree, but what % rate does vod pay on it's debt? Is it low?

There is a rumour that U.K. L.S.E. quoted shares will be free from stamp duty on purchases from next year. If so that will be very good for L.S.E. vod shares. Fill your boots now. Although you will pay stamp duty now, the sp will go up by more when the change happens, as will most U.K. L.S.E. shares... 0.5 % may not seem much, but it is a massive amount.

Rob. I am buying vod shares not selling. I think vod are worth at least £1.40. & the divi is not bad at about 4%, tax free if in an I.S.A. so better than a bank if you have more than your tax free allowance from the bank. If the vod sp does keep rising, they may increase the divi. What price are thinking of buying? Mole man is dead & buried in his hole. I am just back from a holiday in Majorca, so have a good week Amigo.
