Britain's housing market looks set for a sales bounce in the coming months after the Bank of England cut interest rates and the new government turned its focus to the sector, a survey showed on Thursday.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors said its measure of expected sales over the next three months was the strongest since January 2020, immediately before the coronavirus pandemic struck Britain.

"The new government's focus on boosting housing development alongside the recent quarter-point base rate cut does appear to have shifted the mood music in the sales market," RICS Chief Economist Simon Rubinsohn said.

"Inevitably, significant challenges lie ahead in delivering on the ambitions around planning reform and it is far from clear that the Bank of England will follow the August move with further easing over the coming months, but, even so, the policy mix is becoming more supportive for the sector," he added.

The overall picture for the housing market brightened slightly last month as mortgage rates fell ahead of the Aug. 1 BoE cut to borrowing costs from their 16-year high.

A measure of new buyer enquiries turned positive for the first time in four months and agreed sales also improved.

But RICS' measure of house price prices in July slipped back to -19 from June's -17. Economists polled by Reuters had expected an improvement to -10.

Other house price data previously released by mortgage lenders Nationwide and Halifax pointed to a pickup in price growth last month.

If it wasn’t a going concern, Newmont are wasting their time trying to flog it. Unless a new Havieron purchaser sees point in ignoring it.

Why would it seem strange? Telfer still has gold, so I’m reading. Theyre still getting it out. And r3mediating tailings d@ms for something. They’re stockpiling ore.

So what’s your point? Beyond my general assertion, I don’t think it’s argued, that Havieron needs Telfer. Mr.Day refers to Telfer derisking the project. Seems right to me.

What say I? Same as always. Its existing investors might be bothered. If you don’t have money in, you don’t lose - or gain.But you might make money, on timing.

You said yours was a punt. They all talk of research and so on, don’t they. One day it’ll come right. I done my research, they all say. There with some of my other shares. A lot, actually. Bit of luck and we’ll be quids in. But putting money from here into Newmont, as gold rises, was not one of my mistakes ( so far ) Though several on this board, said it would achieve peanuts, by comparison.

You take your chances, when the time seems right. New directors, haven’t so far. There might be a clue there. And Mr. Day’s options, I think will be revisited.

Likes of Stuart, Empty Boots, who are they? Just posters, using the internet, etc. Acttually, very surprised at what I would call enthusiastic gullibility on here. Just my view. But some will say, better than nothing.

I find it interesting. Money to be made at the right time. No doubt insiders feel the same. Maybe. We’ll know when they put their hands in their pockets.

I doubt anybody cares the extent to which anyone might look like Clooney. Or what Empty Boots might think, based on his ‘intelligence’. Or lack thereof.

It’s entertaining though, in the absence of decline starting, funding and the rest of material issues. Telfer remains the issue, if Havieron is to progress to first pour anytime soon.

I already been clear I consider myself locked in until the economy improves, with this one. That’s been the case for a long time. Wickes against its competitors, is preparing for an upturn in customer spend, alongside an upturn in the housing market. And on what has been said so far, is advancing its available market share, and increasing Trade Pro membership ( so the jobbers are not ‘ignoring’ Wickes ) though understandably market conditions for big ticket items remain depressed. Wickes are not alone. It’s a slog, with consumers pressed for cash.

I agree though with the Kingfisher boss. DIY is not a bad place to be in a recession ( or money tight )

We each take our chances. No gurus on these boards. I take the view Wickes is well-placed, and improving its position to take advantage of the upturn when it occurs.

I dont suggest others should invest in Wickes. They might well do better to stick their money elsewhere. I chucked a load in Newmont, for its gold exposure under economic conditions. Done well for me ( so far )

In passing, we had a load of malarkey on here over LBQT matters. Made not a haporth of difference. Wickes sti+ks by it’s guidance.

And Kingfisher also got 3 for their different proposition Screwfix. There you go.

Just in passing, doesn’t make Wickes ‘good’, but I see Trustpilot gives B and Q 3 stars, and Wickes 4.

Nobody will get anything much anywhere prior to RNS. Anybody at the helm of any company involved has more sense.

The very idea that Newmont would release anything of note pursuant to a deal, or detail of any negotiation, at a Town Hall event if it occurred, is really quite preposterous.

In my view, directors are holding fire with their own cash, perhaps looking to have first dibs with others if/when it occurs. Looking at Ggp accounts, it is likely to be when.

There you go again, Trippy. My reservation has been about Ggp financing the project and raising considerably more than its market cap, and whatever that might mean for pi’s,if Mr. Day chooses to spend big.

It is why the price is where it is, apart from the long pause in decline development. Potential investors are not convinced of the safety of investing at this time in the way many board members are.

It is a reasonable observation. If somehow a boat is missed, so what?

I think it safe to assume there will be money to be made in due course.

If my understanding is correct, ‘consolidated accounts’ are just that, for Ggp. Accounts brought together and consolidated showing the financial position of the company entity as a whole.

Seems something of a red herring or codswallop.
