From Hargreaves Landsdown site:
AZN EPS = $1.70 for 2018 and $1.03 for 2019
GSK EPS = 119.4p for 2018 and 123.9p for 2019

So GSK earn roughly same for 2018 and 50% for 2019, yet SP is a fraction

Please can FP explain how AZN is pre-eminent on basis of EPS, as I do not underatnd from what I see here.

Just looking at your note saying you hold: AV LGEN and SAGA, with LLOY and VOD.
If this is your entire share p/f I would say it looks to be too heavy on Financials/Insurance.
I would select 5 different sectors if I could only pick 5 shares.
Or maybe consider a general fund:
ISF = Ishares ETF for the FTSE100
IUKD = Ishares high div payers (50 out of FTSE 350)
ASEI = Fund of about 50 mixed shares
BRWM = Blackrock World Mining

Expereinced investors would say pick a fund for Emerging Markets or the USA's Dow or Nasdaq etc.

I have 75-80% of my p.f in FTSE 100 shares
Aviva, GSK, Imperial Brands. Nat Grid, Shell (B), Vodafone
Other holdings are Aber Std Equty Inc, Centamin. Henderson Hi inc, Pendragon, Supermarket REIT
I would like to add mining/commodities and computers/internet at some stage. and maybe NCYF again.

Intersting observation. If you are thinking of RBS/NWG there is a huge distortion as there were rights issues at £2, then a 1 for 10 consoilidation as the RBS BOD did not like the idea od 25p SP, so it bacme 250p overnight but with only 1/10 of the shares !
HSBC have done best from 2007 - date going from 950p to 380p approx without any diluting or rights etc.
LLOY were about 550p, and had a couple of RIs too. Buying £1000 worth then would be valued at about £70 now.
HBOS went from £10 - taken over for a few pence in a scandal that is still ongoing
BB went bust
AL consolidated into Santander
BARC was about 750p and took help from Middle East to avoid RIs etc. Now about 150p.
If you had funds to but the banks in 2009, you would be smelling of roses if you sold before the Covid crash.
As I have noted two big lessons for me
1. Diversify - I currently have 11 different sector/shares. In 2007 I put 50-60% into banks believing they were "safe as houses"
2. Timing - I invested a pension sum in one month of May 2007, understanding the markets were high, but not expecting the Financial Crash ! Investing monthly is great if you can do it, but even better is to invest a lump when the market hits a trough like Feb 2009 or March 2020 as examples.
3. Have a plan for both entry price and exit (good AND bad !! )

Oops - disaster ahead !
Look at their predictions from last year and see how badly they performed.

Gosh there is hope for me yet as the Master of Crap Share Dealing Ideas ... LOL

I am in similar position with RDSB, GSK and IMB all under water.
For GSK I am confident the SP will recover but no idea how long it will take. I've been in and out of GSK for 13 yrs now.
IMB I consider to be undervalued with a very high divi. I've just cut 1/7 of my holding and still got about 23 or 24% of my p/f invested. I have been averaging down since my 1st purchase at £29 in Jan 2018. Hopefully will get into profit eventually and have sold 2 previous batches both at a profit.
RDSB is my biggest headache as not confident it will full recover. Again I have averaged down from 1st purchase at 2688p, now down to 1650 average, so down about 25% on capital. Will look to trim holding by selling my lowest price purchase.
Last year I sold VOD at 152 and 128 from purchases made at over £2. Now I'm back in at 133p and had one divi.
If I can find a better share to buy with funds remaining I would sooner do that than sit and wait for ever. It depends on my view of the outlook for the shares that I hold. At the moment I am avoiding banks and property as believe these could suffer long term due to Covid. Look at bank share prices back in 2007 before the Crash to see the permanent value damage, as I was heavily invested in banks then, following an idea of Midas Dogs of the FTSE - which totally failed to diversify or split timing of purchases - big learning curve for me.

Oh well you're in the jab queue b4 me - my CSDI1962 giving my age away. So I am working today but just about to finish - normal for me dealing with January deadline for Self Assessment clients.
Mrs CSDI works in NHS and has queue jumped as a front line worker. She is booked in for her jab tomorrow - after receiving text from work yesterday and found an early space - one of the first around here to take up.
Nice to see your experience being put to good use - better to keep active.
My 83 y/o FIL was going to the gym 3 times a week until latest lockdown .. he puts me to shame !
I'm trying to build a dividend paying p/f so that I can leave the capital intact. See my full p/f on "general chat" pages.
I would suggest we use that general BB to set up our own chat thread if interested, so we don't hijack the VOD holders.
Nice to exchange views and opinions with sensible follow investors.

Must say, you have a very sound p/f there if you have 45 holdings spread nicely over sectors and regions etc.
I only have 11 holdings as the capital involved would not spread to 45 like your p/f.
I am overweight with IMB and GSK but aim to trim them over the next year or so, and hopefully add a couple of other shares/sectors to my p/f.
I have started to appreciate funds can reduce risk, but likewise limit rewards with multiple holdings.
At the moment I have ASEI, HHI and SUPR, having recently moved out of BERI, NCYF and IUKD.
Time will tell if these prove to be well founded or not.

I must warn you all that I have joined the rank of SUPR investors on Wednesday.
I have invested a small sum of 6.5% of my SIPP, as an income seeker (to replace higher yielding NCYF which is expecting a divi cut at some point this year according to its Manager "Franco")
I jumped on when the price was 106.6p. My aim is to achieve an income around 5.5% p.a with a view to LTH.
If NCYF SP drops sufficiently for my recent 51p sale price, then I may be tempted to return there if the divi yield is well above this one.
For those that do not know me, my name is CSDI - Crap Share Dealing Ideas.
I have a very bad relationship with shares due to the CSDI curse, which is due to "my natural ability to buy shares just as they drop like a stone, as well pressing the "sell" button just before they take off."

I've had experience of 2 SIPPs since 2007.
My first one with Halifax Share Dealing who I think use SIPPDEAL aka A J Bell.
The Hfax dealing system was simple to use, with fixed admin fee based on value, something like £75 p.a for pot < £50K, and £150 p.a for pot over £50K. Also had lots of deailing offers of £5 or £1.50 instaed of std £11.95. It got more expensive when going into drawdown, so I emptied the account (only £20K) in 6 months to avoid paying multi year fees !
Current SIPP with Scot Widows, which has Alliance Trust Stocktrade for share dealing. On SIPP over £30K and under £100K has admin fee of 0.4% p.a plus £ stocktrade fee £70 p.a. The SW fees include drawdown fee, whereas Hfax charged additional annual fee for drawdown on top of gen admin fee.
The good thing about SW is you have to separate share trading from drawdown, so it takes a few days to get cash out as need to request t/fer from stocktrade to SW control a/c. Share dealing fees on Stocktrade are more expensive than Hfax.
If you do a lot of share deals like me, it can get expensive (I've done 36 share sales in 2020).

I notice yr comment to Danh - saying you have option to buy plus private investment.

As you say the employee share option gives you a guaranteed moeny back if needed.

Have you considered that you may be putting too many eggs in one basket with both choices.
Do you have other shares to diversify ?

I have known people who have done incrediably well from employee schemes - with one ex client retiring on a great pension plus shares from a career in Unilever from the late 60s to early Noughties.

Equally I have a friend who used to work for the Halifax before taken over by LLOY. She lost a fortune in shares and her job.

I don't expect Vodafone to implode like the Halifax did, but I hope you have other investments.

The courtesy of a reply to my original comments might be nice, if you wish to keep posting the same old.

So £17.75-18.25 your prediction eh ? Would be nice, but more inclined to support Jay's crystal ball that it would be lower.
For me I'm stuck with average cost 1650p, so anything between todays close and my average would be positive news.

For interest, thought I would have a look at what you were saying 12 months ago.... and the probability it could £27 in 2020.
Sure we didn't see Covid coming, although it was kicking off in China last December. Here is your post from last year end !

Just to make matters worse, I have today bought into NG as part of my SIPP.
I have put 7% of my p/f into this at a cost of 865p, excl SD and comm.
I am happy to have this dull share in my p/f for the income.
A fairly secure divi of 5.6%, bought near the 6 month lows, should give reasonable chance of a 10% increase at some time over the next 12 months. Not one to set the world on fire, but should preserve capital reasonably well in a worse-case scenario.

Good afternoon A,
So much for being patient .. I have spent rest of NCYF proceeds with the IMB proceeds now.
Decided to go for a dull utility - to get a decent divi - so plumped for NG - buying at 865p.
NG yield not as good as NCYF or IMB, but am hoping the capital will at least retain in tact.
A nice divi of around 5.6% p.a should provide the steady income I want.
It would be nice if I could have a year where my capital does not get eroded. No point in big divis if the SP drops by same or more as has been the case here with NCYF.
I did think about a speculative punt with SYME but I don't understand that business well enough to throw my money at it.
So no doubt that will double in price next year, while NG bumbles along.

I first bought GSK in May 2007 and it was about 1350p then too !!
It has been up to about £18 at start of 2019 and low of about £10 in 2008/09 I think.
Divi has been solid at 80p p.a for about 5 yrs now.
That;s good enough foe me as an income seeker. with an average cost of 1489p.
My plan to sell a batch or two (out of 5 held) if gets to £16.
Might take a while but does have history to do it.

If you want some HY shares to consider - take a look at my p/f on the General Chat board (last message 13/12/20).
I am approx 75% invested with FTSE100 shares. The balance is some divi paying funds/trusts plus a couple of shorrt term trading shares.
Since posting on there I have sold out of NCYF, and purchased some SUPR with lower yield but hopefully better propspect of retaining capital.
Be warned as I tend to be a walking disaster where shares are concerned, hence the name CSDI = Crap Share Dealing Ideas

Is there any way we can help ?
I do not know the extent of your commitment with VOD, but it can't be as bad as mine with RDSB or IMB.
My first purchase with IMB was £29 in Jan 2018 - now £15.56. Divi cut from 206p to 137p
With RDSB it was 2688p in July 2018 - now 1272p. Div cut from $1.88 to $0.66
I have had some horrible losses over the years - my first SIPP started in May 2007 and by Feb 2009 was down by 63%.
I got a lot of it back over the next 8 yrs, and ended up close to break-even.
So you need a plan ....
a) sit tight and wait for recovery
b) sell part or in whole and re-invest elsewhere
c) set a stop loss (I don't like these)
Just take a step back and have a clear think
Does any of the above make sense to you ?

TBH, Not sure why you continue to post in such negative vain. Nothing wrong with having a view that says VOD's SP will fall, as it is just as valid as saying it will rise. Please offer some constructive comments either way and stop clogging the BB with the same old-same old.
