Mind you it was 1975 when I drew with him, a little while before he took on Kasparov for World Champ in 1993.

Oh yes, a number of times.
I've been playing since 1972 and play competitively.
Back in November I did an interview on local BBC Radio about the netflix hit The Queens Gambit.
At the moment we are stuck with playing on line, which is not the same as face to face.
A lot of players believe there is too much cheating with use of technology.
For me there would be no point playing if you were using AI to assist.
I did set up league in our local area in October as our League Organisers were doing nothing.
10 teams played and about 50-55 players took part, which is about 1/3 of all who played face to face last season.
Never thought I would take to it online, but with no other choice have had to embrace it,

TBH I am not working 12 hrs as have lunch and tea breaks and occasional chat in here.
Still it is hard graft but worth the punishment for one month only.
Typically do 30% of my years work in one month, then do sod all in Feb.
Will be on 3 day week for next 2 months, after at least one weeks hol in Feb.
Just a shame nowhere to go, so Mrs CSDI has got decorating lined up. I might have to ask a client to say I'm needed for few days LOL as can't stand painting & decorating !
Don't worry as overall I work a lot less than any full time employee, and probably a bit less than Mrs CSDI's 4-day a week (30hrs) job. Mind you she is reducing to 3 days next month and deserves it more than me.
Most of the year I am as lazy as I can get away with but have big deadline on 31 January.
My motto - "why do today what you can leave 'til tomorrow".
Next month I get back to my favourite hobby - playing chess.

I am expecting a divi of just 3c with the final results. Divi normally paid in May.
Unusual that the final divi is lower than interim, but many firms scrapped finals last year, while CEY paid 6c final in May 20 as well as next interim in Sept 20.
9c divi = approx 5.7% yield. This is good if bought near current level but not so good if bought near the 52 week high.
Hope Q4 production beats previous guidance as CEY have history of understating guidance, so results look better.
A debt free business is pretty rare in the FTSE250. Let's hope they sort out Sukari's clean up and can produce more efficiently going forward, as it does lookl ike a long haul before getting back to peak prod'n levels.
My average cost is 130p, after purchases at 126p and 133p over the last few weeks.
Disappointed that SP has fallen every day since my recent purchase on 7th Jan, when I thought SP was trending up.

I am working hard this month. I have done 13 consecutive days of 12 hrs, and am still behind my work schedule.
January is always my peak month - doing Self Assessment Returns for clients. Another 2 weeks of 12 hour shifts before deadline then I can have a break.
As you might guess I love numbers, and my job is effectively an overgrown hobby which I started about 30 years ago. In 1994 I took the plunge, packed a job in, and decided to earn next to nothing for a couple of years while buidling a client base.
Financially it was not a very clever choice, but it has given me a lot of freedom, and means I have been at home to see all my boys grow up. My eldest now 33, two step sons 29 and 25, and a 19 y/o with Mrs CSDI. I will be working at least until state pension age, while Mrs is planning imminent retirement from the NHS.
The SIPP gives me flexibility to supplement my earnings or at least it did before crashing last year, so I postponed withdrawals. My plan is to leave the capital intact and see if I can generate an income from the dividends. So far not had any success but it has recovered significantly from where it was last March.
Good luck with your efforts to stave off pension credits LOL

Sorry to shatter your illusions guys, but my 5% is a paupers slice of a pathetic SIPP.
Many on these BBs have more in one share than I have in total.
On IMB, one poster would have more coming in a year's dividend than I have in my whole p/f.
What is a lot for me, is pocket money to some. Just hoping that the p/f can grow to something useful if I don't lose it all before I get older (at least 11 years to catch up with Dan).
Still it's fun to invest, and the banter here is superb.

No one forces us to buy shares. Ultimately its the greed in us all, or trying to better ourselves financially, that leads us to buying shares.
We are all here to try and make a profit.

VOD does seem to have slipped from grace and its £2 + SP since early 2018.
I got caught then and sold half at 152 on way down and other half at 128 or so.
I've also had BT with no success and sold out there at more or less rock bottom - oops
Back in VOD again at 133p last month, and with the recent divi to come, am sitting on small loss.
My target is just 150-160 hopefully with 12 months divi as well.
At the mo I have about 5% of my p/f invested and would not risk any more than 10% of p/f here.
For those that have all of their p/f in VOD are asking for problems.
Some diversification is normally sensible, but the poster suggesting 1% only would need a p/f of about 500K at least.
I guess for most of us we need a reasonable %age to make it worth while.
Here's hoping progress can be made on the Towers, as similar news lifted Telefonica this week.
The divi is nice at 6% but is not at all safe as earnings do not cover it.
For those with higher costs it might work to average down while prices at these levels.
I am a sucker for buying 1st batches too high, then trying to get average down. Hence the C S D I

It is one I had held for some time but sold recently as expect a divi cut based on the Managers latest report.

I've just put 3-4% of my p/f in SUK2 as temporary short cover.
Its an ETF that can be naughty - as does not do what it says on tin.
I might look to add to position if things look like heading south - but still have big majority in High yielders.
My trade with CEY going pear shaped. It's getting near review level as slipped 10% over last week.
CEY is about 7.5% of my p/f. No panic as yet, but I have bad history with CEY and don't want a repeat (from 2011 bought at 142p before heading down to 30p with Egyptian crisis)

Cor blimey you've done well with RDSB. I got stuck with a 2018 purchase at £27, when went 50/50 with BP. Was happy with divi at $1.88 but got burnt wit the big cut. I've bought some more RDSB on the way down and sold some recently at 1429p that were bough at 1155p. I've got a couple of batches at 1330p approx but still got the stinker on hold. The divi is lower than I want and was thinking of swapping for BP to get the extra div. But it is not worth the risk as RDSB could easily make up more than 2-3% difference thru its SP. With 10% of my p/f in RDSB that's fair enough for me.
My funds are all in SIPP, so don;t think i can short Tesla. I have today bought SUK2 to short the FTSE and nearly went for S&P500 short. Only expect to hold for few days, and it is only 4% of p/f. Can't see point in chopping and changing everything with about 80% of p/f in high yield shares.
Would be interested to know how you short Tesla .
My shares are all UK focused and maybe need to learn to look wider-a-field

I hold AV, ASEI, GSK, IMB, HHI, NG, RDSB, SUPR, VOD for divis, plus CEY (5%) and PDG as trading shares.

I have a tendency to buy shares just before the SP drops like a stone, and I've just upped from 4% to 7% of my p/f.

Well said. I've got about 4% of my p/f in VOD, but my p/f not big enough to have several batches.
My full p/f is on the "general board" where I have a more general discussion ongoing.
VOD always does well when I'm not in it, and does badly when I am in LOL.

Stevebt - There is no such thing as 10% divi tax in UK - that accountant is talking bull.
In ISAs and SIPPs as Bhavron says - no tax
A basic rate taxpayer has a £2000 nil rate allowance, with 7.5% payable above the £2K, assuming all personal allowance of £12.5K has been used.
As a small limited company I have a £9K salary, then pay divis so £3.5K + £2K is tax free.
Saves me paying employer Nic at 13.8% and employee Nic at 12%
HR taxpayers earning over 50K pay 32.5% tax on divis after 2K nil rate allowance

RDSB is the UK denominated share/divi. No tax has been deducted from divis for many years. There is tax on PID Property income distributions.

For UK residents, there is a £2000 nil rate as part of the basic rate.
BR taxpayers pay 7.5% on divis in excess of £2K

Yes - you've hit nail on head there, Great choices with Bitc & Tesla.
I am convinced they would drop massively if I tried to add them to my p/f; and if I don't buy them - they will just keep on flying !
So I just have to look elsewhere - there's plenty of fish in the sea. No point in wishing for something you can't have (as I often tell Mrs CSDI). Best to recognise own limitations and be happy. While we can choose to be envious of others wealth, there's millions more people worse off than C S D I. Just have to keep things in perspective.
It's a great challenge trying to make money in this game and so far I have failed quite spectacularly - but hey ho - it's only money.
I am just not a big enough risk taker to buy a share that I don;t understand and does not have a history.
Much prefer trying to pick depressed value shares ... but know it can be a fool's errand !
