"claimed that we are not on funds' radar screen because of market cap (it's nonsense by the way)"
That is far from being nonsense - all open ended funds have restrictions imposed by the Fund trust deeds that dictate the, sector, geography, nature, size, %age and structure of any investments that the fund invests in - hence a "small cap" Fund will (typically) only be able to invest in companies that qualify under the "small cap" restriction. At £53m 4D doesn't even qualify as a "small cap" stock but as a "Micro - Cap" and, at below circa $50m, it would be a "nano -cap" stock.
The smaller the company, the fewer the number of Funds that will be able to invest in them, then overlay the sector, geography etc and the field narrows even further. So how many public, regulated funds will be able to invest in a UK, micro-cap, bio-tech company? Very, very few....
Privately owned, unregulated, unfettered Investment Vehicles like Ocean Capital are a different kettle of fish of course BUT it cannot be ignored that 4D's size will severely restrict the number of public, regulated funds that can invest in it.
When 4D was up at £1.80 it would have qualified as a small cap and the value of potential investment funds that would be in a position to invest would have been hugely increased...
