The latter however will recover well again in the medium term as the R risks disappear. They are not going bust anytime soon, their divs are very secure and high, their potential currently for a buyout very high also, eg Aviva recently re a possible 600p buyout price as 3 possible suitors were identified publicly. ToffAppleton1, you neglected to mention Time-Frame !! If one is content to hold a share for 10 years, 20 years, etc..., and the dividend is very high and secure like that of PHNX, then who cares if the sp drops for a few years from the £7 to £4. It provides opportunity to buy more at a cheaper sp, Warren Buffet's advice !! A div of 11% at £4 is still 6.3% at £7. The losses you refer to are Unrealised losses, so as long as the sp eventually rises again to let's say £7 when one wants to sell, then one has at least gained from the high dividend and cap gained from the cheaper shares bought. I have PHNX and others for income, I have many other shares for Cap Gain. So when the likes of PHNX falls back, I'm waiting to avg down !!

I'm not sure Jezzoo , BP wouldn't be investing enough in low carbons to drop the sp by this much in one day surely ? If this is indeed the reason then I hope Sunak and Starmer are taking note and will reduce the immoral UK tax on BP.

I think the reason CEY down today is its proximity to Gaza and Israel and the pressure on Egypt for passage of Palestinian refugees from South Gaza. Also, CEY Trading Statement out this Thursday. Other Gold miners are on the rise as Gold is a safe haven.
