TheRiflemans, Airlines need to have much more robust terms and conditions which protect them fully from any adverse event caused by a non-related party, eg Crowdstrike. Why should EZJ or IAG pay for costs caused by Crowdstrike. It is the latter's fault in the current IT situation and if Crowdstrike doesn't have to pay then the travellers should have to bear the cost themselves, otherwise any payments from the Airlines are charity. Tbh, I would feel guilty receiving money from the Airlines in this instance, but I understand that most people have no shame. I cynically wonder whether those Airline employees who received respectable wage increases will be willing to take a cut if profits drop materially, I doubt they would as 'doing the right thing' seems to be a value lost to the past !!

Sky article below suggests customers will demand discounts, credits, many may move elsewhere or discontinue that protection. I hope UK HMG prevents Crowdstrike being used by UK-sited customers unless Crowdstrike does agree to pay some compensation, one way is to start a licencing system for software companies to make a ban easier. Airlines do have an opt out clause at least as this was an 'Extraordinary situation'. UK cyber security company Darktrace are currently in progress to be sold to a US private equity co Thoma Bravo, I hope that that may now be deferred in order to give Darktrace a much more prominent role in UK cyber security.

Stille, they certainly do have enough to compensate many, but they have the perfect cop-out business model and can avoid paying compensation to anyone who agreed to their or Microsoft's Terms of usage and anyone using Windows has to agree. That's why the Airlines need to have the same types of Terms and Conditions, ie if you buy a ticket then you must agree to their T&C's which include a clause saying that if there are delays for any reason not under the control of the Airline, eg NATS and today's fiasco, then no compensation is payable !! Not rocket science, Control and Responsibility must go hand in hand, that is the basics of any compensation or justice scheme.

Well ijgs, maybe after Crowdstrike's negligence today, the takeover will be stopped by HMG in the name of UK cyber security and Darktrace put forward as a preferential cyber security for UK based businesses !!! What an irony that would be !! The compensation payable by Crowdstrike will surely cripple it unless some insurance it has will pay it ?!!

Yea, I thought the Results were good today and surprised to see the drop. Wonder if that idiot Vance's views on NATO and US isolationism had any effect when he commented at the US Republican Convention. Moscow approves of Vance as they perceive a higher chance of a Ukraine peace deal if Trump/Vance win in Nov. However, I would really hope that Europe and UK materially increase their assistance to Ukraine to enable it to gain back regions because Putin will try to conquer all of Ukraine if any weakness is shown by the West via a so-called peace deal initially giving Putin the 4 regions he wants. He cannot be trusted at all. I realise that some are under financial pressure, but a lot are spending a lot on discretionary activities like Taylor Swift and other gigs, attending the Euro soccer and holidays, so why not implement a specific tax to raise funds for Ukraine, just a thought as objectively the Ukraine war is more important than our personal pleasures !!

Yes Garonne, though these bodies do have a ueeful purpose sometimes. What businesses should do is to simply raise their prices to the public when their costs are increased because of these rulings. Oil and gas are very much set by international market prices but there is scope to add on a % for extra overheads as loiks like many are doing at the pump, and why not ?!! If prices rise because of these SC cases then HMG and Bank of England will become involved more.

Looks like the airlines will uave to raise theor fares to cover the risks of compensation for cancelled flights due to a whole range of reasons. Why they're picking on travel companies whilst many other service businesses can be late to a greater extent I guess it must be for populist reasons. Even phoning HMRC with a query can take hours, why aren't they forced to pay compo ?!!! Could IAG cover themselves by requiring customers to accept terms and conditions which do not pay compo for late flights ?

Stupmy, you must be extremely confident in EZJ or your 100,000 shares invested in EZJ is an appropriate part of a large portfolio meaning you have millions GBP invested overall !! My investment in EZJ and IAG is about 6% of my portfolio value which I feel reflects the risk. Avoid being a gambler for your own sake !!

Sundezena, let's hope so. I think this legal case against IAG and EZJ re late flight penalties is totally wrong. There have been a few times at least where HMG's air traffic control group have caused the late flights - have they compensated IAG, EZJ, etc...., for compo that the latter paid out to customers. Also, a 3 hours delay is too short for compensation, provision of some food, etc... should be enough until delayed by maybe 6 -7 hours. Connecting flight misses should also be compensated obviously. Airlines need to increase prices to hedge for these potential penalties.
