The smarteye DMS in the Polestar 3 got a decent mark from Euroncap. Martin had claimed the Polestar 3 as a smarteye win some time ago in 2023 (see youtube). Incidentally, no such claim was ever made for the Polestar 4.

The DMS in the Hyundai recently reviewed by Euroncap, supposedly supplied by smarteye, scores a little bit lower (1.5/2) than the Polestar 3. Not a bad score. Though it's a bit worrying if customers are moaning about the DMS in this model. Maybe it's been rectified?

Are the different scores here perhaps a reflection of different configurations being used by Tier 1s, with one (the Hyundai) being inferior in this instance to Polestar 3? Alternatively, perhaps different DMS feature sets are deployed by these cars ? Though surely OEMs are fully aware of the criteria that is under current assessment for DMS, in which case the standard features to obtain full marks are all present.

Which is the more technically challenging to successfully develop - DMS or the ADAS/outward camera looking stuff? I suspect it's DMS.

It could be a good time for a larger player to take a look at SM and our main rival that have been doing this stuff for a fair number of years now.

SM have their foot in the front door for DMS with major OEMs. They've been doing DMS for a long time, across cars, trucks, buses and mining vehicles. Unlike mobileye. More points on offer next year from Euroncap, so if the various setups do the job as well as we all hope and believe they will, they're in a strong position.

Pretty sure Japan follows a similar path. That's partly why Mitsu so interested in SM, no doubt.

I think you'll see the tech in more and more cars in China as well. Sure, it's not mandated (it is 'recommended standard'), but so many of the chinese models are fitted with this tech when I view videos of cars in that country.

They still can't crack DMS though, can they. The direct eye tracking on the polestar 4 gets 0/2 over at Euroncap. Smarteye was the confirmed supplier for the earlier Polestar 3, which to be fair received 1.9 out of 2.

Something has gone wrong with the DMS for Polestar 4, is it the supplier or instead perhaps the Tier 1 and/or OEM - 'the system does not immediately operate from Euro NCAP’s required minimum speed and was not rewarded'.

More points on offer for DMS from next year, so hopefully the the various SM configurations are solid. Then we shouldn't have to worry about the likes of Magna looking elsewhere!

I think 500K + cars for next set of KPIs is a stretch. Which OEMs are currently doing approx 100K + cars, with our DMS, per quarter? Ford and VW I reckon. I suspect BMW also.

Stellantis are just starting to motor it seems. Don't know where we fit in with GM, but S/C has been a slow burner. Honda just starting. Who else have we got?

I think we beat the 400,000 figure posted in Aug of last year, which would be good I think. Things then ramp up in a big way later in the year/early next year.

Spotted this RAM 1500 in a few very recent vids. Thought it worth posting as the illuminators on the DMS are aligned vertically, so the assumption is that this is SM? (16:36)

The Hyundai and Polestar 3 cars that I have seen this afternoon have DMS supplied by smarteye. Each car has 2 x illuminators across the horizon. See below post from CB, for a photo of the Hyundai.

Below is the Volvo EX30, whose Driver Monitoring (on the assisted driving version) was recently graded with a 0/20 score by Euroncap. Based on what I'd learned before and the googleAi response I have just seen, smarteye is the supplier?

You can see the DMS at 11:00 in. It looks quite different to that found in the DS8. Just one flashing light in the volvo. Are all smarteye configurations like this one?

Hi seize - it's difficult to tell, for me at least. I'd like to see the DMS functioning on those chinese Audi cars that come on the last link I posted, to compare to the DS8, but DMS is not functioning on those vids I have watched. So far at least.

There are at least 3 chinese Audi cars there, with DMS centred behind the middle of the steering wheel. As per Colin's commentary, these seem to be smarteye wins I'm afraid!

I saw the DS8 with DMS, just the other day. Google AI says it's smarteye, so who knows on that one. We certainly seems to be in Jeep for L2 SAE and safestocks recently stated we're going in some stellantis models this summer.

Yes, the progress VW are making with our DMS is great. Especially in China. We've now seen our DMS in several models, of which at least 3 (Tiguan, Passat, Teramont) have historically sold in decent volumes out there.

It seems we can expect to see the 2026 Golf GTI going in to production in Europe at the end of 2025. It all aligns with what Paul has been telling us.
