The Europeans have been blind and stupid to get themselves into such a ridiculous position where they are reliant on Russian oil and gas, especially the Germans and the Italians.

I agree with most of what you say but there is a middle way to follow and I would suggest you consider it as well.

Simply buy a small holding in each of a range of small caps - maybe up to five - enough to make a difference if the SP takes off but not too much to cause financial discomfort if the SP collapsed without any prospect of recovery. Some won't make it, that's why its important to spread your chances with around five small caps.

The point is that you have to have a long term holding to keep an understanding of your investment and also to have the confidence to increase your holding at some stage. Then if it does take off you can follow it up and top slice profit or if you are very lucky your original outlay to just leave profit.

Also, don't give up unless its obvious there is no way back - I was down 95% with ITX at one stage but they came good. If the management and potential is still there - as it is with EQTEC - just hold in there and be patient [that's much easier if you are not overextended].

Yes, very true, same here, but with good news we could get a quick reverse.

Good options for Venezuela now - nationalize their oil industry - kick out the Russians - make up with the US and get new US partners to repair their oil infrastructure - even Maduro must see that option.

Its interesting to note that after starting lower this morning the SP has bounced back very strongly in a very weak market and is now ahead of oil shares in percentage gained.

There is two alternative supplies for Russian oil - the US is building back production and still has a way to go.
And, it looks like the US is preparing to end sanctions with Venezuela and build production - they will need to kick the Russians out and rebuild the infrastructure - Venezuela has more oil reserves than Saudi Arabia.

However, long term we need to build up renewables.

Also keep an eye on AHT - most of their business is in the US and Canada.
They will also be a very strong buy when this turns, followed by OCDO.

Just be patient, Ocado's exposure to the US market with the Kroger partnership will eventually pull the SP back up again - US market will be first to recover.

The Ukraine war will certainly accelerate the need for renewable alternatives to carbon fuels with the demand led by Governments.

I think the most likely scenario for Eqtec now is that one of the big players will come looking for their tech and make a takeover offer.

The point being that Eqtec are simply to small, on their own, to exploit all the development potential but as a division of say Shell, for example, they would be fully funded.

Yes, the future certainly looks good for renewables and the German market is key, especially with their reliance on Russian gas and dirty coal. The Germans will be looking to their multinationals like Bosch for direction and innovation.

The key for Ceres is that they have a direct way into the German market with their Bosch partnership with the ability to scale up quickly in Europe and in China with the new three way partnership with Bosch and Weichai.

I guess CWR and ITM may start to lag behind CELS now - US shares in general are performing better than shares in Europe, simply because the market sees less exposure to the war in Ukraine.

If Putin remains then the world doesn't just risk further military action but the consequences of the spiralling down of the fortunes of the Russian population to match counties such as Venezuela.

History repeats itself and history tells us what happened after the Treaty of Versailles when Germany was forced to the brink in this way - hence the need for decisive immediate action - maybe Lindsey Graham was right?

So much depends on the war in Ukraine.
All the uncertainty means its impossible to predict anything in the short or longer term until we get some sort of resolution.
If it did finish quickly I think Brent would probably fall back to the $85-$90 range with further reductions as US output increased.
