RE: Russia-Ukraine war could delay Europe’s decarbonization plans for a decade16 Apr 2022 18:26
Clearly there will be a need to keep existing carbon based energy assets online to maintain energy supplies - no argument there.
But, a lot of the renewables technology is now very well advanced and will be making a very significant contribution to European energy supplies by 2030 - probably enough to cancel out the effect of doing without supplies of oil and gas from Russia.
The UK is well ahead of the curve with its offshore wind capacity for example and will be producing more green hydrogen that even the Government expects.
EU countries can expect good supplies of imported green hydrogen by 2030, probably converted into Ammonia, from North Arica and the Middle East that has been manufactured using solar power.
This idea that renewables is a distant dream is just plain wrong, but oil and gas still has a big part to play as part of the mix, as does nuclear, especially when it is locally produced in Europe.
