Revlon have filed for bankruptcy in the US.
I am not sure if Itaconix are a supplier - if they are its unlikely to have much impact.

The reason they have declared bankruptcy is very relevant - supply chain disruption.

There is a shortage of ingredients for them to formulate their products - they cite one lipstick requiring 35-40 different raw materials.

This presents a challenge to Itacaonix - as we have seen it delays orders when customers cannot get other raw materials to formulate end product.

But it is also an opportunity to encourage customers to adopt itaconix products, especially if they are seen as a reliable US based supplier.

I think that the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury are going to have to make some hard choices over the next six months regarding the additional services that offer, including home delivery.
With labour costs rising and margins being squeezed something will have to be sacrificed so that they can go head to head with the discounters, even if it does mean loosing market share but if its unprofitable then so be it.

The problem with simplify, rationalise and delete is that you end up with disappointed customers.

However, if you can steer those customers online they will get far more choice, especially with Ocado.

M&S could quite easily switch from diesel to biogas for powering their HGV fleet that delivers products to stores from their distribution depots using existing tech.

Biogas can be produced from food and other waste with very low level emissions and used in the same way as natural gas in lorries - some UK firms, including Royal Mail, are already running biogas powered HGV's.

M&S could establish their own biogas production and refueling site powered by their waste close to a distribution hub - deliver the waste back from stores and then refuel before collecting their next load.

I think the shorts are taking full advantage of the volatility.

Taking small positions under 0.5%, just for a matter of days and following the news agenda.

Longer term it will make no difference.

Judging by the Hurricane Energy update this morning, oil companies are still in the dark about the impact it will have and are still waiting for details to be published.

M&S have defiantly benefited by a reduction in competition as result of Covid and how other companies have reacted as a result of Covid - for example a knee jerk reaction by John Lewis to close stores with the rise in online sales.

The market place is very different now than it was in 2019.

But, I don't think that financial markets have woken up to the benefits that have been created for companies like M&S and are only seeing them when results are published - as was the case today with Premier inn owner WTB today - they are benefiting big time after a big reduction in independent hotels and B&B's.

Private investors have an opportunity to study the market and identify companies in all sectors that are set to benefit over the next few years.

The chances of this study being anything like accurate are probably as good as picking a number from a hat.

There are far to many variable's at the moment.

M&S simply have to concentrate on serving their core market regardless.

A good bounce back by US stocks after Powell said "doesn't expect moves of this size to be common".

Its interesting that the Dow was up 1% at close but the NASDAQ did much better with a 2.5% rise - good news for tech stocks, including OCDO.

I think that the current SP is heavily dependent on how the shorts react to the financial news of the day and their manipulation - hence yesterdays low was probably the best entry point.
With "better news" we could see a return to the 900's by Friday.
Better news being more clarity for global markets -sparking your relief rally.

I think the shorts are greatly exaggerating the volatility with the aid of the red days - lots of different funds holding positions under 0.5% for just a few days.
You may like to cast your eye over WTB - a strong long term buy, I think.

I think that there is little doubt that the SP will rise in line with broker forecasts when the global macro shows signs of improvement.
But, WTB is actually trading well, even with recessionary fears, mainly because many of their B&B competitors from 2019 are no longer trading.

They do make a charge for delivery but with a minimum £15 customer spend the margins must be tiny.

Its easy to see that home delivery for cooked takeaway food can be profitable, because of the higher margins, but delivering a handful of groceries on the back of a bike seems a non starter to me and will probably only continue in affluent areas where the population have more money than sense.

So, the strong recovery continues with the independent sector of the UK hotel market still in disarray and still contacting.

The only downside is increased labour costs.

The point here with Walmart is that they seem to be moving away from the idea of small bolt on fulfilment departments for home delivery at their stores to something akin to a Ocado Solutions CFC.

I guess they appreciate that Kroger have the lead and are now trying to catch up.

Kroger will now probably respond by accelerating their CFC roll our to maintain their market lead.

The result will mean a much larger share of US groceries will be delivered direct from CFC's and the market will rapidly expand as investment increases - Kroger have already said that it is cheaper for them to open CFC's rather than supermarkets.

Make no mistake, Ocado's ultimate success lies in strong performance in the US - other markets will then follow.

In the long term, I think the market actually needs a good strong hike in interest rates now to quell inflation and push economies into a shallow recession.

The point being that the supply side problems are so acute now, as a result of Covid, that a sort of cooling off period with lower demand would be welcome and help ease prices back, especially of gas and oil.

Great competition - that should give Kroger a good push to get on with their roll out - has to be good news for Ocado.

The only encouragement is that 900p is holding - at the moment.

Even in the short term I don't think that OCDO is a bad investment option - the whole market is c**p at the moment - its little point holding cash with inflation and low interest rates.

Just patiently hold for better times.

It seems Serica are successfully avoiding the full impact of the windfall tax and that their shareholders are benefiting big time!
