No overnight recovery for Brent - we start the day 2.5 dollars lower than the Friday main market close in London.

The problem is that Brent seems to defy logic and trends are difficult to break - just like we saw before Christmas.

So it maybe that although the market price should be rising because of supply, it may drop a fair bit more before it bounces.

Its all down to sentiment, as usual, but that is shot to pieces by Trump and co.

The quote - "History repeats itself" - is very true especially when comparing the Romans with todays Americans - Trump is a dead ringer for Tiberius as I am sure Stormy Daniels would testify.

I am not saying that Iran is innocent but the US policy of backing them into a corner can have only one outcome - the way forward was clearly more diplomacy not ripping up what had been achieved.

The problem for Iran is that the US sanctions are liable to cause the country real economic damage and they have only two options - to back down or "fight it out." - backing down is not in the Iranian DNA.

Fight it out doesn't mean overt military action but something more subtle, so action in the Straights of Hormuz would seem to be almost inevitable.

Personally I think that this whole process has been engineered by the US and Israel - the Iranian nclear deal wasn't perfect but it was a dimplomatic stepping stone towards peace - now the clock has been put back to conflict.

SM is looking like a good safe haven for investment now with large parts of the market decimated by a Trump induced recession.

The biggest problem in all the worlds markets is knowing what Trump will do next - hence the risk aversion.

This also extends to politics and defence - or in his case aggression - so we may be rejoicing next week if he sends a few dozen cruise missiles to take our an Iranian nuclear facility.
