For Enquest in 2021 there are two outcomes - the first is to continue to pay down debt and the second is to merge with or be taken over by another energy company.

Personally, I think that the second outcome is far more likely - the whole North Sea Oil sector will see consolidation with just a few bigger players emerging probably linked to renewables - the tax credits are a big incentive for mergers and acquisitions.

I think that the aviation industry will recover much quicker than most analysts, and the airlines, think it will.
When the pandemic is behind us tourism will explode into growth, initially I think from China to Europe, so investing in upmarket brands will probably be a good move because the Chinese love their bling at home and abroad.

Not sure that anyone can predict what the Russians are going to do tomorrow, let alone in 2 months time.
They are just as likely to do entirely the opposite and cut production.
More to the point I doubt they know what they will do in 2 months time.

Its certainly true that Brent at around $50 is what most analysts consider to be a average for 2021 and the Russians would probably accept that, also its difficult looking at current data to expect that not to be an accurate prediction.

But, we are forgetting what I call the Boscastle effect. On 16th August 2004 most of the centre of the village of Boscastle in North Cornwall was destroyed in a catastrophic flood. I visited the village a few years later when rebuilding had finished. What I found was a revitalised prosperous village that had climbed back from adversity through the endeavours of the local community and an injection of outside cash.

I can see that when we are free of the pandemic our economy will bounce back, not just in the UK but all around the world, just like Boscastle did. The 1920's saw a boom, so will the 2020's - a fight back against adversity! - Brent will surge.

If the reports are correct that one jab will give 90% immunity - as promoted by Blair - that would make the immunisation program much easier and quicker - I guess all the over 50s could have a jab by Easter - presumably the medical experts are looking at this now.

Sentiment fed by potential does count for a lot and it does overvalue stocks from a financial point of view - but when the prospects are good companies do grow into their valuations - look at Amazon for example, no profits but for years but now a money machine.
That is the attraction of growth companies but if things do go wrong then yes you could loose a lot, but don't discount sentiment - Sentiment + Potential = Profit.

I did point out it was negligible - the simple fact that it is so low supports the fact that the market has no fears for Enquest's financial stability and counters the argument that the SP could fall to the level suggested by some posters.

Furthermore, I would guess that more than half the stock out on loan is in the hands of bondholders because that would be the only reason to loan stock at the moment - the SP can only move up from this low ebb in the longer term.

Its simply down to lack of volume until that changes ENQ will continue to lag the market - its up a bit now.
