I think that this period where the SP has been relatively weak is probably a reaction to the SP getting ahead of itself during 2020 as a result of investors seeing how the grocery market was changing around the globe.

Now after a period of consolidation, it seems to me that we have had the reality check of actual results and the SP is now ready to move forward again.

Now, it is up to Ocado Solutions to deliver - Kroger going live is a big step forward in that aim and should spur the SP along.

Not convinced Neil - Amazon Market Place works because of the Amazon name - the recent trend to latch onto and buy big names like Top Shop works because customers relate to the brand.
This concept of bringing designers onboard, without even identifying them doesn't work for me and at these prices the commission and profit will be spread pretty thin.

I am absolutely convinced that by staying ahead with the science and implementing sensible lockdowns that we can supress Covid.

With a booster vaccination next autumn, I think that by this time next year it will be history, but it requires a higher level of commitment to achieve this aim that is currently being shown.

We have developed, or are developing three in the UK - that's the level of commitment, I am talking about. It gives a far greater insurance policy than just developing one.

I agree that the vaccines are not the complete answer due to mutations of the virus - the problem is that if some countries, like France, lack the commitment to vaccinate their citizens then mutations become much more likely. Also EU counties don't seem to understand how to implement lockdowns - re the Dutch music festival for example [my 12.47 post]

If all the EU Nations had developed their own vaccines or at least funded them, using their own national expertise, finance and resources, Europe would be in a far better place now.

Putting reliance on other nations was always going to end badly, simply because the country that paid for development or facilitated development was always going to get first use.

In the UK we try to steer a middle ground between the all out capitalism of the US and the socialist utopia of the EU.

I guess to follow that path we have to have our independence so unless the EU changes course we will remain outside even at the expense of loosing trade.

From a technical point of view there is still one big challenge.

That is, the integration of robotics to pack customer orders after they have been picked - this task is currently done by hand and is time consuming - using robotics will be quicker and save on labour.

Presumably when completed it could also speed up the whole order process at the CFC?

If Ocado had just remained a retailer, then a bigger player would have taken them out to get the tech.

That's the point with the evolution of an industry, if you don't do it, someone else will.

By developing the tech themselves Ocado have guaranteed themselves a future, the price that they have paid to get there is that the goal is a long way away, simply because the industry is global, the more they do, the higher the expectations.

I have no doubt that they will achieve their goal - they hold all the cards.

It is important to consider not the costs of producing green hydrogen but what it makes possible, then the high production costs become irreverent.

Electricity is already produced by renewables in the UK and around the world, wind power is the favoured method in the UK and its use is increasing all the time.

Renewables are efficient but not all the energy they are capable of producing is used - this is where green hydrogen could come in.

If power companies had the aim of using all the power produced any power not required by the grid could be diverted to green hydrogen production and the hydrogen produced could be fed into the existing gas grid - hence we would use 100% of the available wind power 24/7.

I think winter outages are par for the course in the North Sea and are generally weather related - Oil Companies seem to make allowances for them in their yearly output targets, which are generally more modest than investors expect.

The EU seems intent on neutering member states, this is something that the UK was never happy with, the vaccine failures highlight this - centralisation never works - bureaucracy stifles endeavour and efficiency - its more soviet than capitalist.

I was strongly in favour of the single market and it is a great shame that the UK left the EU - I hate nationalism with a passion.
But, to be honest the handling on Covid by the EU has been so shockingly awful that I am now pleased that the UK did leave.

Having said that, if the EU did become a less centralised organisation and based more on just a trading block, then I think that most people in the UK would be much more willing to engage with our neighbors.

Most of the problems investors perceive to see are because they don't purchase equity for the long term.

For example anyone who purchased Ocado shares in the last 6 months and sold out now, would do so at a loss, so they would have a negative view.

However, experienced investors would realize that an upturn in the SP is just around the corner and would hold and wait for their profit.

I just hope that Covid doesn't mutate again in Europe during their totally avoidable third wave - pity the pour souls who will die due to their incompetence.

Luckily we have another two vaccines in the pipeline that will be in production here in the UK over the coming months and the scientists in Oxford are already preparing the booster for next autumn. The Scottish vaccine from Valneva, that will be available at the end of the year, looks like it will be suitable for children.

It looks like some of the UK produced Novavax vaccine will be available soon. Also the Moderna vaccine from the US is imminent. So maybe the shortfall from India will be quickly filled.

At the moment it looks like UK tourists will be able to travel across the Atlantic and the Pacific this summer but not across the English Channel.
