My take, all employees have a legal duty (including the NHS) to reduce the risk ALARP. If those masks are proven to give better protection than the ones they currently use, then IMO, in theory at least, employers should be replacing their current masks with those. The price point (£1 per mask) is not a reasonable justification not to supply them to the workforce.
In the Offshore Oil and Gas industry we currently use snoods that have the same viral protection incorporated into them - they are £20 (can be handwashed up to three times) and are required for helicopter, bus, plane travel on off the rigs. - in my opinion those £1 masks are a far better and safer option, there will be many industries, companies that should be looking at those as an option.
