I'm not arguing now because it's bed time for me but people have choice.
People have chosen to shop at the likes of Tesco and they (and others) demand food, milk being a prime example at such low prices it is uneconomical for the farmers, some lose money on the milk that they supply, how can this be right?
How come when you cook a Chicken or a piece of Beef from Tesco it is full of liquid? The roasting tin is left with half an inch of what appears to be water/synthetic butter!
People have choice if people chose to buy less meat but better quality (from the butcher) this would be a start.
Anyway I could go on but I'm tired now, see you all in the morning.

Talking of obligations, land tax.
You forget one very important part, much of the land of this country is owned and controlled by those in power, there will be no land tax.
Anyway do we really want to encourage intensive farming here? Is that really the best option?
The problem with this country is that people WANT cheap food, witness the demise of butchers, bakers, greengrocers etc, yes time plays a huge part as well with people's busy lifestyles, both partners working etc but if you want a quality piece of say pork your not going to get it from your local supermarket.
You mentioned Asia earlier, its the same with Clothes witness the success of Primark and the like, people want to spend £2 on a t-shirt....
But not me I hasten to add!

My mate farms because he wants the money, when he decides he's had enough he'll either sell the farm or have a blo.0dy great lawn.

This may be a terrible thing to say but you can definitely see society going online only especially once the current crop of 70+ year olds have passed.
How many businesses now push online only, insurances, booking flights etc.
When I do go shopping or out to eat the majority of people are paying by card, even when it's just a couple of pounds.
I hope Lloyds do keep a high street presence but I only go into a branch a handful of times a year now. They really should concentrate upon offering exceptional levels of service, people generally only look elsewhere when their current provider had pee'd them off!

Who is going to make £100 Billion oil and gas investment in todays market?
ExxonMobil, Chevron etc need to find more oil & gas sure, for years to come but they will also be diversifying.
There'll be no takeover now IMO.

BP potentially getting "fisted" and yet Europe (including the UK) continues to buy oil & gas from Russia.
Our CEO needs to "call out" what's going on here especially in light of the imposed "windfall tax"

I do agree, but they would get slaughtered in the press, especially with bills going up again in October.
I know it's not BP's fault, really it's this country's successive governments but the press would savage us!
Really need BP to relocate somewhere who would welcome us, how about the Cayman Islands there's an awful lot of hedge funds registered there!

You might be right regarding the divi but by following this route just how much bad publicity do you want to generate, the press will have a field day.
I want the money but I also want to see a strong BP going forward.
Moderate divi rise, pay down debt and I would continue the buybacks.
Not everyone likes them but they will if we can get this company down to 15 Billion shares!

To be honest the more games the better at the moment!
I'm a new holder here and although I've got a few I have some money coming my way in about 2 weeks so I'm praying things stay at these levels until mid June which will give me the chance to get a decent slice tucked away.
After then I will be more relaxed and can then look forward to any future positive newsflow!

Not really, but I do see your point.
I am FULLY responsible for my research and which companies I decide to invest in.
I also have complete control upon when to add and when to sell.
When I look at some I often think that I wouldn't touch that with a barge pole, I would lose that control.
I also like that I can spread risk to suit myself and can chop and change in an instant if I wanted to.
If I end up poor in my old age I only have MYSELF to blame.

I know your post wasn't aimed at me but there have been a few instances over my lifetime where I have lost any trust in pension and investment companies.
Issues not necessarily for me, but friends and family although I did find out the company I was working for in the 80's did a "bit of a Robert Maxwell" with the pension scheme.
The days of me giving large sums of money over to someone I have never met are long gone.
