That figure has been generated by a REPUBLICAN group.
Lots of poor information on the Internet, would be interested to see a factual breakdown of costs against revenue generated.
I have been in London for several royal events, Kate and Williams wedding being one example, and I would be curious to see an accurate figure for the extra revenue this (and last night) created.
Also is it even possible to calculate how much income would be lost if the Royal Family did not exist? Although the properties would still be visited a huge number of American, Japanese & Chinese tourists come here because of the monarchy.
The loss of income to hotels, shops, pubs & restaurants I think would be difficult to calculate?
Anyway I will shut up as I don't want to turn this into anything but the Lloyds Banking forum!

Maybe my terminology was unfair.
This conversation has progressed because of criticism levelled at the monarchy, country and disparity between rich and poor.
If I was unemployed, or a single mother, or let's say disabled I would much rather be living here than the great Western beacon called America.
Anyway I apologise for using that term but my points stand.
This is a great country, faults yes but its still a great country.
Anyway this will be my last comment on this thread as its probably best to let it go.
The benefit of living in a democracy which includes our monarchy Is that under a dictatorship it could cost you your life!

No it's not a crime but it shouldn't be a lifestyle choice when your claiming benefits.
I fully understand that my taxes are "for the greater good" and one day I'll be claiming some back when I'm ill or whatever but somethings wrong when people are saying increase tax here, windfall tax there, clobber the rich (?) when there's people who have no intention of changing their ways.
I've got absolutely no problem with my taxes helping say a single mother, helping to pay her rent because she has nowhere else to go, to put food on her table, BUT I DO BEGRUDGE paying for her cigarettes!

I've got no problem with people who have kids and something happens to put them in a position where they need help.
What I DO OBJECT TO are people like the one who lives opposite one of my friends.
This particular "skank" has 5 kids over a massive age range, I don't think any of them have the same father and I believe she has never worked.
If normal working people cannot afford to have more than say 1 or 2 children they stop.
When people on benefits CONTINUE to have children they get more money.
I would prefer limits to be imposed and this money directed towards the NHS or elderly or whatever.

It is easy to pick fault with this country but is it really that bad?
There's problems here, obviously, but the GENERAL standard of living has definitely improved from previous generations.
Debt is a world wide problem and people have been encouraged to buy now and worry about it later. This is never a good idea, and although some people have to take loans I have heard about people who borrow money for holidays and the like which is stupidity.
America has a far greater division than the UK and a quick Google of what's going on in Los Angeles shows the craziness there.
There are opportunities here and if you work hard you can have a good standard of living, you will get exceptions and I do feel for those but at least we have some form of safety net to TRY and catch those people.
Maybe if some of the benefits were removed from those who who add children at will, or buy cigarettes and alcohol with it there would be more for those people who really deserve it or need it.

Not sure about a crook but he has definitely used twitter to manipulate stocks, Bitcoin etc.
He really should be investigated and banned from twitter.
But be careful what you say, the "cult" members will be sending you hate mail!

Personally I would say that you had a very high risk portfolio weighted heavily with small to mid cap stocks.
We are all different and have different levels of risk but I prefer to hold a core of ftse100 dividend stocks and then speculate on AIM.
I have a couple of big investments in AIM (many 10 of thousands) but I certainly wouldn't recommend this to everyone and I would never do that if it compromised my core holdings.

If you have lost money in oil & gas investments then you have made poor investment decisions, either through your direct investments or the person who you sought financial advice from.
I also invest in oil and gas and have held numerous companies over the years (and I still do)
BP, RD Shell, BG Group, BHP Group, and others, I am probably fortunate in that I have always made money.
Maybe you over exposed yourself to one sector?

No one is going to give you anything, if you want something, and you want it bad enough you have to work for it.
Sometimes in life you have to work bl00dy hard and reap the reward later.
I've done the 70+ hour weeks, plenty of them, I have worked bl00dy hard to get where I am now.
It's no good moaning, you are the only one who controls your destiny!

Opportunities are there, retraining? Do you have a skill that an employer could use?
This country has its issues but there is far far worse out there!
If its so bad here why not look at starting afresh somewhere else?
