I knew we'd bought from Saber after 2005 , but what I did not know was whether Saber were independent of Seka/KEB or whether they were a reincarnation of each other in some way. And the royalties payable on Selemo if the sold gas or electricity from that source was another puzzle for the same reason.

Thanks for clearing and confirming various thoughts I have. The 100MW was decided after KEB/Seka threatened to withdraw ifthey were not offered a decent PPA - that is a certainty and happened during the period I was studying this one closely. TG was firm on 2MW but looked to be compromised into accepting 50MW until it all fell apart and the plans changed to producing turn-key electricity instead of gas cylinders on lorries.

Bidding for 100MW Power Station

In 2016, Kalahari Energy was shortlisted by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security to tender for a CBM fuelled power plant in Botswana. The bid was submitted in 2017. The first round tender evaluation process was delayed and a second round of bidding opened in 2018 to which Kalahari also responded.

Sekaname received notification from PPADB of preferred bidder status for its 97MW CBM-fuelled power plant in May 2019.

Kalahari Energy Botswana (www.keb.co.bw), through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sekaname (Pty) Ltd, has been notified by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security that it has been awarded Preferred Bidder status for the construction of a CBM-fuelled, IPP-owned power plant in Botswana. This notification follows from the Group’s submission in October 2018 to tender “for the development of a maximum of 100 MW coal-bed methane fuelled power plants in Botswana as an Independent Power Producer”.

Sekaname submitted a bid for 97MW and its rival in the closed tender process – Tlou Energy – submitted a bid for 2MW scalable to 10MW over time. Tlou Energy has also been awarded Preferred Bidder status.

I cannot corroborate this - and I have spent hours or more looking for it - but I researched Sekaname when they entered the fray on behalf of Kalahari Energy.

They had opened an office with 2 employees (who may have been directors of course) to qualify as a domiciled Botswana company and seemed to have no history. At the same time KE backed out after Fonseca inquiry in Panama was casting doubt if they were honourable and they were not a Botswana company, which was stated to be a preference.

TLOU looked home and dry as a single bidder. The KE/Seka definitely threatened to pull out of the RFP bid unless they were given a worthwhile PPA to make it worth the effort. 100Mw was 50 times what TG wanted , and there was speculation that Seka and Tlou would split the 100Mw 50% each. TG paid lip service to his acceptance of that - but I am convinced he was stretching further than he his comfort level. At the time he said there was plentiful demand for several suppliers in Botswana and we were several years ahead of any rivals.

I was never confronted about statements that KE wanted a large order from BPC to act as a carrot for investors BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THE MONEY! Neither did TLOU for the scale that KE or Seka planned! TG always planned to keep costs down to avoid dilution as far as possible. 50 Mw compromised that approach.

Why is it so difficult to find a history for Sekaname if they were established a decade or two before my beliefs???

African companies do change their company names - and can be difficult to trace - but my memory is quite clear and if if I deamed it , what a strange dream it would be?

BPC/Govt were unable to back all domestic adventures into the potential Botswana energy and therefore left them all to stew in their own juicesout .

TG made it very easy for them to back up by targetting 2Mw from the off! I am sure Botswana could have backed him for the sort of outlay he needed , but they committed hari-kari on that front by entertaining KE in one guise or the other (Seka). 100Mw was clearly too much for a non-existent market to be borne out the coal ashes. Unnecessary red tape for the micky mouse operation TG planned as a starter became the norm. All a waste of time and they ended up with Tlou and mickey mouse on the one hand, and Seka still flying a kite at 6MW = 3 mickey mice - how stupid are they?

Tlou is many years ahead of them under ground but Seka and co are expecting to be live in a couple of years?

TG and his 2Mw are the only consistent factor in the last 20 years .....

I am thankful to TG for his guarded approach.

I think Donk's worries about whether funding was going to be trivial are now well founded,

BUT he concerns about the competency of TG are very far from the facts.

TG's contingency plans or frugality have stood between TLOU and the door for a decade or more,

Most of the OG's on here expected TLOU to in production and profitable in thr 2010's and never expected to be still waiting for go-live in 2024. There were two ways to tackle the many factors that have arisen since 2016.

Shut or bist? Raise money urgently at whatever interest rates are charged and go 100% at everything until we succeed in delivering electricity and getting the money to pay for the debt , or , run out of cash and pack it in!!!!!

The TG approach - slowly slowly catcha monkey - live within our means and suffer the delays - until the tortoise reaches the finishing line. Tony the tortoise has kept moving forward and we are only half a year behind the target date for an income. With an income and proven business TG will be able to go into the big banks rather than looking for loan sharks in Sydney Harbour.

A dewatering in #4 and #6 and hopefully #3 , new wells will hopefully be online with a year and planning will be easier for shut or bist risks.

If any of you have a Dell laptop and your battery reduces to 0% , don't try getting it back to normal performance unless you have a 65w a/c charger or USBC supply. I have learned the hard way - once the battery is 0% and does not help you reboot , a 45w will eventually be enough to boot (up to 10 minutes) but will not charge the battery!!!

I left my Dell charger in Hove a couple of years ago and have had problem ever since. I replaced the battery and it was ok until it got to 0% . A 65w a/c Dell charger arrived today and is great with the original battery back in the machine. So I have a spare! I might charge the battery aand then swap it out for the future.

After 2 or 3 minutes on 65w charger it rebooted and the battery was already 1% which might be enough???

45 minutes later , affter a dog walk , it was up to 44% and is now 99% .

Cheers Winni, my machine says to remain seated when using it - that ruled out standing for me for the years I was falling over on dog walks. When I broke my ribs on New years eve (8am in the morning and sober) the medic tested my laying on the bed , then sitting on the bed and was surprised nothing changed! As an afterthought he got me standing up, the room spun viciously , and my systolic dropped from 178 to 79 and all 3 pulses were static at 62 which meant there was a communication problem from brain (movement not detected?) or from brain to heart (speed up heart message) or the heart (ignoring the speed up command). Not a diagnosis but it ruled out vertigo (BPPC) when I went from ground level (poop scoop) to standing too quickly!

My soster has low blood pressure , enough to concern mid-wives at some of her maternity deliveries (4 of them) so perhaps we have lower levels in the family tree. My Mum was AB blood group and I am B+ bit I guess tht is irrelevant ?

I have to see a Gastric surgeon tomorrow and will take the bike- I don't know what that is about but it has taken a year to meet after they cancelled a couple of appointments. Car is on a SORN since May and th bike is not much cop for shopping a multipack of crisps and a box of weetabix and I'm struggling on the bike 😁so I use the bus. Buses take too long to get to some of the venues they use. Online shopping at Asda allows me to keep the beers stocked up!

i am monitoring my blood pressures twice a day and on July 17th I drank nothing and went out in the hot sun!

I was on 2 steroids per day at the time and had not taken any meds. I got home feeling fine and did my pressure tests expecting no shocks.

Here is the extract for July 17th - you'll see how the steroids have improved things.

After my broken ribs (no steroids on New Years Eve) I saw my GP when I got out of hospital and she said 70/40 was very low and I many people would be unconscious at that level. After the dog walk, feeling fine, I registered 57/40 , my lowest ever reading - so it shows the benefit Steroids bring me. 1 steroid stopped dizzy spells from January, but 2 steroids have improved pressures since May 11th. I must avoid dehydration at all costs and standing up too quickly from sitting.

As far as I know, my Dr. is still sticking to her's and the hospital's dictate that I am unsafe to drive until I satisfy the condition that 6 months pass between my faints!

It was made after I fainted for the first time in 77yrs , but I fainted twice in about an hour , both from the same period of dehydration during May 11th.

After the whole of June, July, August and September, plus 20 days in May without a faint (SYNCOPE) my statistical training tells me that dehydration has become a certainty and not just a whim as it was in MAY!!!

BUT put yourself in my GP's shoes - 6 months was sensible because I could have fainted many times since May 11th!

And each time , if I was at the steering wheel the car or handlebars of the motorbike, there would have been carnage at best and deaths at the other end. I described it as a Licence To Kill , and if I killed a child and myself it would be down to my GP?

Personally, I am sure I will not faint whilst seated in the car or on the bike - it has never happended.

But will it happen before Nov 10th , D-Day for me D for Driving Day?

What values of X Y and Z are acceptable? In my case Y is 100% and Z is 0% + or - a tiny fraction!

Tlou's choice of X is between 1 and 25 Mw , and Y is 0% (for 25MW) rising slowly to 100% (for a 10w lightbulb), with Z reciprocating. Tlou will be judged on the ration Y to Z and I suspet they are chasing a value of 0.

Extra wells will help to reduce Z , or a low X does as well ....... think about it!

TLOU have opted for 1 MW as X - and they nver wanted a high value!!!! Sekaname wanted 93 , we wanted 2 , back in the mid 2010's. Can you comprehend that Bots???? I think it shows what you have never understand for a decade.

Sekaname seemed to foist a value of X = 50:50 on us .... I have been unable to find the words to support how I understood until now. QED.

Of course they don't know. Currently we cannot make use of the gas so every cu.foot we release is wasted? Why do we want to waste even more? Once the substation is connected at Lesedi then we can start selling tickets , until then who wants to buy tickets for concerts at the 5,000 seat stadium I am planning to build for all the top singers in the UK?

As for our horizontal drills they are draining water faster than a succession of vertical drills would and initial dewatering was known to be potentially a pain. A couple of years was possible but Selemo was only a few months (plus how long before we took it over) - hence the optimism from us - and the GOVT who were all systems go until Sekaname slowed progress down and screwed that urgency completely!

I wonder if vertical drills took too long to dewater for our predecessors to survive, but maybe their work freed off air traps so our horizontal drill at Selemo was perfect? Life was so easy at Selemo , apart from the drill getting stuck!

Lesedi has been a nightmare since but who expected it? Even Donks got into TLOU in the Selemo days! No wonder TG was so excited at the time ❤️

Selemo generator had to be modified to run on lower gas flows that it was designed for.

#6 and #4 flows have been improved so the spec for the ultimate generator we should install may be volatile.

My optimism is that the trend is for higher volume generators and one big one is more cost effective than buying one and either modifying it or adding extra generators.

Good news = price drop , Bad news = smaller price drop? So why bother?

The directors have just paid 3.5 cents around 1.8p - which, in the "Idiots Guide to dealing", would be a catalyst for a price rise. But it actually did nothing and then the price dropped to today's ridiculous level.

Nearly every signal frim TLOU seems to have the opposite effect and it is hard to make any predictions with confidence any more. All these absurdities would have killed most start-ups but TLOU are still resisting impulsive decisions and are playing the slowly,slowly catch a monkey game. We are undeniably getting closer to a go live date which is looking unlikely to be in 2024 imho. I am hoping for first or second quarter of 2025 and sub 2p top ups for the ensuing months.

That should guarantee us delivering in time for Xmas ........ I'll leave it to you lot to decide which Xmas I am considering.

My name has an O in it not AW - thought I expect you bein AWE of me chum.

TLOU inherited Selemo which was , no doubt , being dewatered at that time. Unsuccessfully , for sure or the previous mob would never had sold out! TLOU produced gas from the well within a couple of months and were adding a new well until the terrain took its toll on the drill which jammed and they decided to use the gas from Selemo. rather than flare it, tand afaik that gas is producing the first and only CBM powered electricity in Botwana even now!!!

A reason to be cheerful! They moved onto Lesedi for wells 3, 4,and 5. For some reason #5 was always the poor relation, maybe because one vertical shaft was shared between 3 and 4. #5 was suspended during Covid and then #3 too because #4 was rapidly more productive than #3 which was several months older than #4. We were informed that #3 and #4, instead of merging their gas flows to the surface , they were mutually detrimental.

#4 continued on its own until lockdown eased and #6 was added using a different modus operandi!! That was so successful TLOU redrilled #4 to some extent and both wells have brought the confidence for production in 2024.

Will #3 and #5 be suitable for the improvements? I dunno!

So there were not many drills! One aborted at Selemo , 3 early ones at Lesedi , and #6!

And TLOU did not GET 2MW at all - they were obliged to bid in the 100MW offer - TG always wanted to negotiate after the was flowing so the quantities, costs and prices would be known and not guesswork!! 2MW and 3Mw and 10MW was Lefoko trying to push things on. Bless his cotton socks, he has not achieved that but the paperwork is apparently all complete so he has done his best?

The press declared a 50-50 split between the 2 bidders was likely. And TLOU were agreeable to that but I felt they accepted it reluctantly? Seka however were flying a kite at 50MW , and as for 90Mw+ - what a joke!
