RE: Solar is going to shine16 Apr 2020 10:51
From Stakeholder Presentation – Gaborone 30 October 2019
"Tlou has already obtained full environmental approval for 20 MW gas and 20MW solar power generation. With success, this would be a first for Botswana and unlock its vast solar potential. The Company believes that gas is absolutely vital for a successful solar power generation project in Botswana and our current wells are yielding encouraging results in this regard."
The PPA is for CBM power , there is a definite push towards solar worldwide, and at the recent conference on renewable energy Botswana voiced their support wholeheartedly. But CBM is not considered a renewable energy so it had no place there!
I had this argument recently about solar with another poster and, whilst we are definitely going to go down that route , solar needs complementing power overnight i.e. CBM. CBM is 24/7 and solar is not .... so unless there are compelling reasons to change course it ain't happening imho.
If solar installation is largely unskilled and the govt make installing solar a special case then maybe, if work on CBM is not possible.
BUT the priority for us is to produce the means of distributing electricity from site to Serowe (from either fuel) - so our task force might be better used on that?
