omicron , lockdowns, media, data21 Dec 2021 16:36
I posted support to our government when it first emerged that a new variant with multiple mutations, threatened to evade our vaccines and was highly transmissible was first discovered by South Africa.
personally I felt the government acted swiftly by adding the 6 African countries to the red list to bide some time why further data was sought. the last thing we needed after all the hard work in jabbing arms was for it all to go to waste.
also with a lag leading to hospital admissions I felt it was right to give the government some time to gain that much needed data for the next stage , has always been cases hospital and then unfortunately deaths right .
our daily cases have nearly doubled in recent days , proof the initial diagnosis by scientists of fast spread was correct, so what about next step of admissions and restrictions , first case in South Africa was 23rd November , in the united kingdom it was 27th November, united states was 1st December , Portugal 29th November , 1st December for France a general feeling its been around most of world for appro x 3 to 4 weeks. so a fair time to see where we are at.
Boris announced no further restrictions, as have most of Europe and the world , there are a few exceptions, Holland being one of course , but for me this speaks volumes, clearly the data is showing a) the boosters are having a real impact , B) this is more mild as previously discussed here and c) hospital admissions remain stable a drop of 135 yesterday and a drop of 133 today. total currently 7482 but a rise in the week by 82. i say stable as we had 40k in hospital in January 2021, so not even 25% of that figure.
I'm convinced the media are clearly driving this, I'm 99% positive we will see a mini lockdown, further evidenced by the 1b grant for hospitality, my opinion you don't do that if a lockdown isn't coming. however i say mini lockdown because by mid January we will see further data to show were we are with hospital admissions and deaths and unless there is a dramatic increase the public will be demanding change . for me this is a ar5e covering exercise by the government in response to the media, if they felt omicron was that much of a threat they would be making tight restrictions NOW.
how that impacts Cineworld and my investment, as i said I'm convinced this will be a mini lockdown, any huge financial impact will be eased by the grant, it might effect S.P but with luck not so much our financials. so I continue to hold my shares long term.
lastly before the reaction I'm not a scientist, a health worker or a member of government i am only sharing my OPINION on where we currently are. something in which this board is for.
hope everyone who has watched it enjoyed the continued massive success in Spiderman and your xmas plans are going well.
