The policy as it stands, is indefensible imo. It is set to cause immense suffering for the most vulnerable in society, many with existing health issues likely to exacerbated by the cold.

The money raised is trivial relative to many of the Govs ideologically driven spending commitments here and abroad.

I tend to agree with Reeves comments from her time in opposition:

They won't provide the info as, as amongst other things, it includes a huge overspend on "irregular" migration, a topic they appear eager not to address.

As far as im aware the report was largely an administrative / evidence gathering exercise, and there was more than enough evidence!

Certainly enough to make the question of impartiality / bias, redundant imo.

Rules were broken, whilst others suffered the consequences, sometimes in terrible circumstances.

Of course, people may now reflect that the rules were perhaps excessive in some instances, but thats a separate issue.

Swapping a few names around, Angela Rayners comments could be recalibrated thus:

Older people are far more vulnerable to cold, so it seems reasonable that the Gov should prioritise those most at risk with support, and in doing so, ease pressure on the NHS at its busiest time of year.

Im not saying it's ok that working age people can't afford their heating costs, but in terms of Gov support, money needs to go to where its most needed imo.

If we have a cold winter, the consequences, and the headlines, are not going to be easily dismissed. Particularly with the frontbench indulging themselves with expensive, and entirely unnecessary luxuries.
