Hi kenny,
Most of the institutions we rely on, specifically their ability to perform their intended function, is increasingly being hampered by a warped sense of what is, or isn't acceptable, loosely based on inherited characteristics or ideological motivations.
It is little wondered the police feel unable to perform their basic duty to the public - keeping us safe - when those above them seem more concerned with the politics of any given situation than the well-being of the officers involved or the wider public.
It is this mindset which allows our politicians to describe an event featuring 350 arrests, 8 stabbings, with 50 officers assaulted, firearms, machetes, and two people murdered - as "largely peaceful".
These same politicians would not describe another public gathering, with anything approaching these statistics, in the same way. In fact, they would likely be outraged and demanding action. It is simply the cultural identity of the event which grants it immunity from criticism.
Imo, public trust in our institutions cannot be maintained under such conditions.
As an aside, i like the carnival, and dont particularly want it moved or meddled with to any great degree.
