He also hopes they will be unnecessary because there are now 11 vaccine candidates in phase 3. This is a fascinating move - Imperial and Oxford teams collaborating to see if nebulisers are more effective than injections. The fact is Gupta has already been proved wrong twice - in March she developed an "alternative" model which suggested the UK already had herd immunity, and in May she claimed that the pandemic was probably already past it's peak. There seems a reasonable chance the Dems will gain control of the Senate, allowing the budgetary approvals Biden will need. Apart from the actual spending, there will be a whole change in attitude including appointment of an EPA director who actually cares about the environment (current one is a coal lobbyist), and re-engagement with the international community. To my mind it all adds up to more demand and more urgency in the general marketplace for IES products.

Is there any reason why everyone is ignoring the NanoFlu vaccine from Novavax in these discussions? It is a different technology, but used to be described as a universal flu vaccine - is that no longer the case? It is well into phase 3 and has fast-track approval from the FDA, so certainly well ahead of flu-V

Thanks Ted, it's interesting that OO already has an answer for the main point addressed in this article, and it shows not only that they are ahead of the game, but also how unaware the general public, media, and apparently, even scientists are about that fact. Noticeably, the Human Challenge Study also addresses another concern being raised in the media - testing vaccines for transmission, not just prevention - demonstrating again their sharpness.

Another takeaway is the disconnect between the public imagination, where success in phase 3 = Endgame, with the far more complicated reality of safe, effective vaccine deployment.

Someone posted recently that the study had been "delayed" from January until May. In fact they are start and completion dates, so no delay. Then approval will be needed from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) before the the study can be conducted at the Royal Free London. Meanwhile, mu understanding is that hVivo will be manufacturing the specific challenge virus to be used in the study.

As actual conductors of this vitally important study, hVivo will be at the absolute cutting edge of worldwide attempts to overcome the pandemic for at least the next 7 months.

Having put rocket boosters under hVivo in the UK, I would hope CF will next turning his attention to the USA on a number of business lines. Despite Trump, I believe the US govt. is backing the Oxford vaccine financially and are presumably very interested in the challenge studies. The US public and investors ought to be fascinated by CFs motivational talks, especially with an "Irish" president in waiting?
