Step Back3 Oct 2019 20:03
After a day like to day which I think caught us all off guard I think we need to step back for a moment a differentiate between the company and the SP. The company is doing fine - customers love it, hopefully deposits are increasing and plan to expand the business by opening more branches is ongoing, despite the expansion with the obvious costs the operation still makes a profit. Despite messing up the accounts they have managed to raise £375m at £5 and have just secured a £350m bond in a very difficult market. Putting the SP aside someone looking at the business from outside would think everything in the garden was pretty Rosie. The SP however has become something of a casino, short sellers driving the price up and down very effectively and making a killing as we ‘investors’ pile in and out speculating on where the disconnected market price will go next. I am as guilty as anyone, I averaged down, sold on highs, bought on lows and like many have found myself sitting on substantial losses - we only have ourselves to blame whilst the shorter led market plays us like a fiddle and the funds sit quietly owning a steady 80% as the children get it all out of their system.
