What do you think the chances are IAG will try and sell off BA to raise cash to underwrite the rest of the IAG group?

Or, indeed, any of the other parts of the group?

I ask as I expect a fair amount of changes to the make-up and extent of carriers as lockdowns dissappear and the real impact of the pandemic shows in the ability to return to capacity, whether a return to capacity will be allowed due to some environmental restrictions (I can not see the climate change lobby NOT missing this opportunity), the ability of governments to bail out knackered airlines, and so on.

Yes, other brands in IAG are to be factored in, just wondering whether BA planes were being used point to point within EU or whether they have kept BA as an 'unitergrated' brand [ready for selling off as a complete unit if the need arises]. Certainly IAG will benefit as long as EU do not hold ownership of 'that flag' against them with any new lifting of travel restrictions.

Does anybody know how many point to point (if any) BA do within EU? I suppose a lot will depend on whether crew will be EU based rather than UK based too, same for Ezy and Wizz - another one I need to keep an eye on.
Politically, I would expect the EU to try a stunt of some sort to score points against UK, cheap pre-travel tests, open borders, special access to holiday islands, rules designed to leave out UK. They are like that! So EU based carriers will be given a march over UK based. Will raise an interesting debate about travel for the people on the island of Ireland introducing travel apartied. More fun and games to come there.

One I may go in is Easy Jet on the basis that there point to point within EU migh go well with an EU vacc passport. I think that may open up quicker than flights from UK and of course Easy J can relocate their fleet easily. BA might be able to run services from some EU hubs and simply over the UK, but I expect outright protectionism form the EU so that might only be a small market for BA.

I think I may be out for a few weeks given the very confusing messages coming out of government. It is clear there is a big fight going on, bozo won't let it carry on all the way to the 22nd (or the 33rd!!!) so I expect a resignation soo. That will indicate which tunnel will be dug for the great escape out of lockdown.

Grant Chaps begins the great 'back peddle' on the vacc passports. They will exist, but won't be called passports! It is vacc passports for visiting pubs that will not exist. Remember, that huge public debate about vacc passports for freedom of movement within the UK? (I don't!). So a scheme or system is in advanced preparation. Great - what a suprise.

However, there was a straight forward warning, do not book any holidays now. Indeed there was a godd deal of cold water poured over the idea of doing anything holiday wise before the 33nd Feb announcement. It was a rather blunt warning there would be no quick opening up of travel abroad. My guess is it will be Q4 before restrictions are removed and travel before then will be very expensive with multiple tests and self-isolations continuing.

mmmmm.... I am a beleiver in the mid term prospects but also fortunete to be out at the moment. Have a good few barrels of dry powder. Lots of coiled springs waiting on particular information, not just direct news. Also a few emergency pumps ready fro fast bail. It is being day traded hard to make up for missing divs. Ride the wave and wipeeee, miss the wave and drowning.

The most probable worst scenarios, I have not factored in any zombie invasion or metor strike on BOTH Heathrow runways.

It already has impacted, each announcement does not correlate with dumping of any shares by iis, so they appear to have priced in the worse scenarios already. But ths is being day traded to hell and back now so roller coaster ride any way.

My readng around the anti-holiday sentiment from the government seems to revolve around PP. It seems she and her 'group' inside government took umbridge at the people evading the holiday lockdown by going to Dubai. I think the objection became a little irrational with her and Dubai became singled out (as opposed to all the Carrabian and Indian/ Pacific Ocean destinations). It all became a bit snide and that rapidly developed into a total border lockdown approach. My reading is there has been a bit of a cabinet division between those looking to find ways to open up travel and holiday travel overseas and those who are playing the 'one suffers all suffer' policy. The comments that the UK doesn't do things like vacc passports was very odd and against the narrative. The policy to hotel quarantine has been put in, but look at the delay. I have a suspicion that PP has got a bee in her bonnet over this, jelousy perhaps, self-righteous definitely, and certainly power vanity. The travel restrictions may only be staying in place and the refusal to engage in passport schemes remain as long as PP remains in the cabinet. I think she has got her self so deep in it, she will eventually have to resign as the rest of the cabinet tries to move the agenda forward. I am watching all the political statements on and off the records carefully. The situation is intensly political I think.

Very interesting. News this morning requiring yet more expensive jabs on returning from holiday. sp response (and with Easy) is minimal. Tells me that for the most part ever more draconian restrictions on travel are priced in by iis. I wonder if a full border closure has been priced too!
