Even nudge theory burns out. The whole point of nudge theory is that very small changes are made to policy that are barley noted in changing behaviour. The idea is that people are slowly nudged towards a big change in small incremental steps over a long time base. But as found with the EU, over several decades populations were nudged along form a common market to full political integration. People were always able to see where they were now to where they started and say too much. It is the same all over Europe. With the sabotage of travel, and the other restrictions due to covid nudge theory policy, once people notice the policy, as in start to question 'why is this required' then the behaviour becomes conscious and people start to reject it.
Nudge theory was a concept that had a few followers and one or two experiments appeared to show it had the ability to manipulate people without them knowing and hence not rebelling. Like all of these mind control, behaviour control ideas, they are just academic ideas that never work in the real world because people are just too diverse in their opinions. And the likes of the Behavioural Policy Unit in Downing St have it in their thick heads they are actually influencing people and start to make the nudges bigger and bigger and believe because people are wearing masks that the nudges must be working. Except for most it had to be made law, not nudge theory, and most have been terrified to believe they are going to die if they don't. Eventually people get over that fear and start questioning. One of the most important exit strategies for post covid is to get rid of the BPU, which won't happen of course because they actually believe they have an effect.
Just one of the many things to consider in the 360 when looking at the recovery in your airline shares. It is why I am increasingly bullish, because what appears at this moment to be set in stone, is actually wet sand!
