If I remember right the Easy J rights sell price was well below par when Stellios dumped his, but when I went swallow tail the price was some 17% up or something like that. I wouldn't rule out the option I cited a few times before, IAG spin off BA. They can take large amounts of debt and obligations of the IAG book whilst still keeping a legal as large as possible holding ready for the return of dividends. Where the little retail shareholder stands though would be interesting. Would the new owners pay off part debt pile to appease the banks? Could a spin off result in a revalue UP????????

You can only pay off credit with real money in the bank. Guessing on future income as a cover is not currency for the banks. Omicron proved how the quickly the rainbow can be put out. And it isn't just a matter of meeting some monthly payment. The creditors may have agreed the credit arrangements based on certain criteria such as no dividends being paid or a certain amount of cash to be held. The late summer, autumn and now winter income is in large part lost. The significant delay in the US opening up and then the increase in sabotaging of travel and UK being red listed has led to a lot of lost income. Warnings have been issued already by other airlines. It's a business. It is run as a business. It will make business decisions. The shareholders are at the bottom of the creditor heap and that is what business decisions are based on. IAG is not some cute family run victorian community enterprise with chocolate box cover workers cottages. Don't lose sight of that fact. The important bit is to anticipate if you are a holder to be prepared with cash to buy your portion of the issue to balance your average. Frankley, it is the same for all the main airlines now [again]. The probability of another RI is more likely than not - but that is true for the whole of the travel sector, at least the ones that can survive omicron. I suspect a number of airlines to go under in January as the costs from omicron add up. The big consolidation is about due and was coming even without covid. IAG have already pulled out of one acquisition.

Oracle, whilst I would put money on a RI and anybody invested should have made provision for buying a full allocation, the light at the end of the tunnel is starting to make me squint a little as it increases in brightness. For me, my powder is dry on a number of options, I remain sitting on my Easy J, Tui and SSP in the travel sector. There is a good chance of me taking some IAG but I am going to assume I will have to hold dry powder to fund a 1 for 1 RI which could mean capital tied up until Feb results when a RI would most likely be announced - but it could drop at time of course. That is a long time so for the moment the dry powder could be committed elsewhere. If I am not a holder during the RI then I'll almost certainly jump in as soon as the sp is corrected down. It is all down to how long I am prepared to hold on to RI dry powder so to speak.

Was this a lazy 'shoppers' picture pulled quickly from the archive, or was this deliberately selected to show non-mask wearing shoppers to go with a story where new rules extending to wearing face masks outdoors is Not happening, unlike some places. Photojournalism is as celebrated as the words and ordinarily image selection is very deliberate. Especially for publicahing like the indy. It is also possible, but quite remote, that nudge theory is being deployed to move the image form one of face masks to no face masks preparing for the day when they are no longer mandatory, or possibly, even more remotely sadley, being banned!

Reading too much into it? No, in the 360 real world there is trickery and deceit all arounds all day. It will be interesting to see if the incidence of and degree of images of mask wearing increases across various formats over the next week. Will the number of Tories not wearing masks in the house increase notably when Parliament returns? When will Diverse reports and Channel 4 broadcast the most explosive documentary on masks of the decade? Has it been shelved or even deleted?

The 80 year old had 'other complications' with covid omicron. There were another 100,000 other infections he could have got with the exact same outcome but that real world scenario would confuse the news editors.

Gazz, are those numbers corrected for population density? It isn't a defensive point, but a large number of the England cases are in London which has a very high population density and therefore better transmission. Critically, would lockdowns of any nature reduce the spread rate. With the level of contagion on omicron that is the question that is being answered all over the world, and it is a resounding no. Once it takes off, there is no stopping it - exactly like a virulent cold or flu. Then the next point to consider is what damage is done to the host. Overwhelming evidence says non-vaccinated have the worst of it. But even then on the most part unvaccinated only have mild symptoms - if any - and likewise for vaccinated with far fewer showing symptoms. I understand the desire of those in front of the camera lens to 'be seen' to be doing something, especially if it appears to make them look more in control than the others. On the other side of the balance is the impact of such restrictive measures. From the consumer to the provider it is a massive hit in multiple ways. At some point the point is reached when the lockdown is more damaging than the consequences of no lockdown. From all the data from omicron there is no legitimate need for the restrictions. All we need to know has been available in SA but has been ignored for one plain reason - it is SA. I understand one of the newspapers has finally laid out the political leanings of those who have used their expert status to implement their leftward political views. It was blindingly obvious from the start of omicron as day after day the response was to treat it like delta and completely ignore the SA work and data. The political class in the UK has been slow to wake up to this bigotry, there is enough awakening in England so far to keep a degree of proportionality although the mask wearing is still not exposed for the superspreader it is. The other devolved admins are still in automatic blah, blah mode and yet to have the courage to say no to the narrative. We will find out today whether Boris caves in or stands firm against this new rise of leftie elitism. If he does, it can referenced as a path to follow worldwide [yes, UK still has a huge level of influence]. If not, we could be locked in this ridiculous cycle of lockdowns for another year every time somebody sneezes.

If he attempts to bring in NYE restrictions, Parliament will vote him down and he will have to step down else there will be a vote of no confidence and election in the new year. I suspect he will up the 'advice' to answer the lockdown lobby - which is going to be very intense as a huge number of experts and broadcasters have to save a very significant loss of face.
