Oh, and I've figured out why the apologists were so sensitive to the earlier posts exposing the laser scam weapon. First, they have to be careful of enterprising journalists snooping around for copy on the so called weapon. Very little comes up on google, so this chat was scoring front page results. Very quickly, journos will be rubbishing the wonder weapon and the whole scare tactic will fall apart. Doesn't matter because journos will be on top universities and physics teachers and quickly learn the real world reality of the limitations.

Secondly, fear of Russian nukes relies on the exact same propaganda method of fooling people into there being something viable. As the wonder weapon campaign collapses and people start laughing at it, the same mockery will turn to the nuclear threat. Rusty decaying warheads and delivery systems that if they even get to a target, the detonator might have the biggest bang.

There are a lot chemicals and a wide range of very specialised equipment involved from growing substrate crystals with the required purity to cutting, polishing, nanometer lithography, staking, bonding and then casing. Each step has a multitude of bespoke machinery and feder materials. This is not a matter of knocking out old fashioned TTL chips or diodes. It will take a couple of years to get a nanometer CMOS production line working and the cost per unit produced given they won't be able to sell stock will literally be in the hundreds of thousands per chip! And they probably need 10 or more specialised chips for each guided missile.
