The video of the unit shows it mounted on a train, it needs a train to transport it. I said yesterday these laser weapons to be destructive need huge amounts of power which need large generators and power storage and significant kit to handle thousands of amps without quenching the power rails.

I will be gobsmacked if this wonder weapon manages to even disable a plastic toy drone right in front of it.

If this repelled invasion on snake island was true, the propaganda value would be immense. A lot of time and care would be put into clear propaganda pictures, video, press releases, news pieces with copious visual backup. instead we are presented with a few seconds of extremely unsteady fisheye lens black and white footage pointing mostly down with 1 brief flash of a tower on the sky line that could be a mobile phone mast anywhere.

The other point is that kind of action would be the kind of stunt Putin would go for. Give the date, it is more likely the story was invented to cover up the significant damage done by the Migs and drones. Is the black and white footage designed to cover up something? Black and white footage? And the clips very carefully selected so as to avoid identifying where or when the images of the completely unidentified bodies were. No close up of badges or anything, oh and also filmed with a fisheye lens to ensure maximum image distortion.

I am very familiar with the spin from Russian MoD and RT, except the Ukraines never attempted to take the island. They aimed to deplete the radar installations being used to cover Russian activity on the south coast and SAM batteries setup to stop Ukraine sinking its boats. A radar, sam and arms store were taken out. Also a resupply helicopter as taken out later y a drone.

This is how the jets are mainly used now, lightning strikes at defined installations, especially ones giving off electromagnetic signals. Ukraine has a massive amount of air control using drones. They have been incredibly effective in conjunction with the mobile SAMs that keep knocking out Russian jets.

The point is, you wouldn't know the difference unless it has a z on it, they are using mostly the same kit. And Ukraine has more active aircraft now than before the war thanks to the spares and repairs they have had and they have hundreds of drones of all shapes and sizes. There are hundreds of drone footage showing them dropping grenades and bombs on tanks from the drones themselves. The war planes were used on the snake island recently. They are used sparingly because they are vulnerable to friendly fire like the Russians are used sparingly. There are a lot of SAMs in the theatre and Kiyv no longer needs air cover.

100% Bull Scrap! The US spent billions trying to develop these types of weapons and never managed to build a weapon powerful and mobile suitable for a battle field. If you are lucky you might blind someone like with a laser pointer. The UK navy used lasers to a limited extent on some warships in the Falklands flashing and momentarily distracting the Argentine pilots.

You have to focus a huge, a seriously huge amount of energy, to heat up a spot through 5 km of atmosphere enough for any kind of bun to begin. The air is constantly scattering and refracting the beam so the build of energy is constantly displaced, and reflected. Instead you try to pack the same energy in shorter pulses, which requires enormous amounts of power.
