They've almost ran out of cruise and guided missiles and unable to build more. The air force is largely absent and tends to get knocked out the skies when it does appear. o far they have been pretty effective wiping out a makeshift bridge and battle group with it.

Whether the local populations being forced to use roubles and carry russian id is irrelevant. It is occupied territory which Ukraine is not going to hand over. When the Russian generals throw the towel in, the border they are required to go back to will be the 2014 one. Ukraine will have to be careful not to use the withdrawal as a cover for any war crimes against the separatists, although with no more Russian support the separatists will be gone mostly too. Over the longer term, real referendum might resolve local autonomy issues but the land will be taken back under Ukrainian control first. Russia will now no longer be able to hold onto any territory. It is my opinion of course but I think Putin has lost his last chance to pull some sort of hollow victory out of it.

Again, I think many are fundamentally misreading the situation. There has been a significant turnaround and Russia is on the defensive now, and Russia isn't being armed to the teeth with modern nato kit. The Russian air force is clearly not cooperating and suffers high losses when it does venture in. Up to May 9th, Putin had the opportunity to make a bold ceasefire declaration and try and hold onto at least a land bridge, even if it was the form of just an elevated road and even controlling Crimea.

But he has let the chance go chasing after battlefield victories. Now the entire campaign has changed to something very different. Ukraine is now expelling the invader and from all territories. How long will it take depends on how high the Russian generals will allow the piles of Russian bodies to go. The generals know what is coming next. They will make the call to end it, the sooner the better.

On land and in the mind, the Ukrainians are the defenders and that is they have the high moral and the invaders have the low moral.

You are still defining this in terms of the fantasy plan as originally envisaged. Russian forces are being pushed back all over or held up in areas no further than separatists held. The idea that half the objectives have been met and the rest is just a mopping up operation is just delusional. The whole nature of the war has changed. It is now about Ukrainian objectives and Russian defeats. And with the military kit arriving, the Ukrainian objectives will rapidly accelerate.

There is nothing now for Zelenskiy to negotiate for. This is down to the Russian generals when they decide to end it. It could be in the next hour or few days, but it is very close. The offer will be full withdrawal rather than surrender. Otherwise the Ukrainians will increasingly cut through the clowns circus like a knife through warm butter.

... and another thing to be considered. As the war crimes are revealed and the horrors of the Russian army are revealed, then there will be the REVENGE. Negotiating any land grab would be a bad idea because the occupiers of that land will be under a perpetual terrorist campaign for decades to come. In fact, Russia might have some real troubles to deal with as revenge is taken to Moscow. This may be so inevitable, it may not be safe to visit Russian main cities for many, many years.

Another factor the generals will have to take into account.

You're delusional. You think it is a normal sequence of events that Ukraine just hands over territory to an invader? How convenient. Meanwhile, in the real world, Russia has failed to suc a significant degree it's only viable exit strategy is ceasefire and withdrawal. Now, as this has developed, the Ukrainian objective is changing. Now, recovering all the separatist areas and Crimea territory is the objective. Russia has no alternative but to terminate it's war right now to begin the backpedaling of sanctions.

How long will the generals keep up the slaughter of Russians?

Some people here need to wake up to the reality of the situation and dump the wishful thinking that Russia is going to somehow save some sort of honour or accomplish any objectives. The war will finish with no objectives me and wit previous gains repealed.

The attacks into Russia are on the supply and logistic lines supplying the invader. Same to date with the sabotage attacks in Russia. Furthermore, there is no information on which equipment was being used for basic shelling vollies. If Russia does not want incoming fire, then they just have to stop the war.

There is a very big! difference between being able to roam around streets in an armoured vehicle, and being 'in control'. At lot of those towns have regular demonstrations against occupiers.
